MEET OUR NEW SCHOOL DIRECTOR

The Alliance Francaise de Fresno is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Jennifer Dupras as its new Director of Studies. She will replace Camilla Colby who is retiring at the end of May. Jennifer was raised in the Central Valley and has been an educator for the last twenty years. She is currently Principal of Lincoln Elementary School in Kingsburg. Her wide experience in the classroom and in school administration will serve her well as she grapples with the multiple complexities of our AFF language program. As a young girl, Jennifer spent three years in France and calls herself a diehard Francophile. Her command of French comes a very close second to her charming disposition and solid professional approach to her educational commitments. The School Committee looks forward to working with her in the coming year and assures her of its unfailing support. All questions relating to the AFF Language Program should henceforth be directed to Jennifer at: [email protected]

FRESNO FILMWORKS PRESENTS

the Oscar-nominated animated movie "Ernest & Celestine" at the historic Tower Theatre,
Friday, June 13.
Show times: 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., 80 minutes
* Rated PG. Bring your kids!

Deep below snowy, cobblestone streets, tucked away in networks of winding subterranean tunnels, lives a civilization of hardworking mice, terrified of the bears who live above ground. Unlike her fellow mice, Celestine is an artist and a dreamer - and when she nearly ends up as breakfast for ursine troubadour Ernest, the two form an unlikely bond. But it isn't long before their friendship is put on trial by their respective bear-fearing and mice-eating communities.

Fresh from standing ovations at Cannes and Toronto Ernest & Celestine joyfully leaps across genres and influences to capture the kinetic, limitless possibilities of animated storytelling. Like a gorgeous watercolor painting brought to life, a constantly shifting pastel color palette bursts and drips across the screen, while wonderful storytelling and brilliant comic timing draw up influences as varied as Buster Keaton, Bugs Bunny and the outlaw romanticism of Bonnie and Clyde. Bringing it all together is the on-screen chemistry between the two lead characters - a flowing, tender and playful rapport that will put a smile on your face and make your heart glow.

Based on the classic Belgian book series by Gabrielle Vincent, Ernest & Celestine is winner of the Cesar Award for Best Animated Feature and numerous festival prizes. Kids of all ages will love the youthful, slapstick humor, while the "grown-ups" will appreciate the surprising depth of this memorable friendship story. Presented in English, the movie's dynamic voice cast features Forest Whitaker, Lauren Bacall, Paul Giamatti, William H. Macy, and more. Tickets are on sale now - get them today for the whole family!
