On Thursday, June 26, Mayor Kriseman was joined by Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin, City Council Member Darden Rice, and City LGBT Liaison Robert Danielson and St. Petersburg Police LGBT Liaison Markus Hughes Kriseman to raise the Pride Flag over the City Hall grounds for the first time ever. The flag will proudly fly for the duration of the St. Pete Pride festivities this weekend.

Tampa Bay Times: St. Petersburg EMS contract deal reached, but others remain

 

County commissioners unanimously approved a three-year deal with St. Petersburg on the funding of emergency medical services.

 

While Tuesday's deal at least temporarily quiets the battles with that city over EMS funding, it leaves unresolved money issues with the other 17 cities and fire districts that provide first-response EMS.

Tampa Bay Times: Tampa and St. Petersburg mayors say cities' futures are linked

 

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn have known each other since the early 1990s, bonding over policy discussions at the Democratic Leadership Council, a Bill Clinton-era bastion of the moderate, pro-business side of the party.

 

Buckhorn was an assistant to then-Tampa Mayor Sandy Freedman. Kriseman hadn't been elected to anything yet.

Tampa Bay Times: St. Pete Pride expands with more days, bigger acts, new night parade

 

Already one of the largest celebrations of gay pride in the United States, St. Pete Pride is getting even bigger in a year of firsts.

 

The biggest change is the first night parade on Saturday, with the St. Petersburg mayor in attendance for the first time. Pride also expands to four days, with a kickoff party Thursday and a concert on Friday by Mary Lambert, the Seattle singer-songwriter whose work on the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis gay rights anthem Same Love soared to the top of the charts worldwide. It ends with a festival on Sunday.

Bay News 9: Mayor Kriseman to march in St. Pete Pride Parade

 

St. Petesburg Mayor Rick Kriseman will be the first mayor in the city's history to march in the annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Parade.

 

The parade kicks off at Georgi's Alibi on 31st Street North on Saturday at dusk.

Four area mayors, including Rick Kriseman of St. Petersburg and Bob Buckhorn of Tampa, talked up the benefits of well-funded public transit Tuesday, but the audience did not lack its usual critics.

 

A proposed penny-per-dollar sales tax increase to fund a sweeping public transit overhaul in Pinellas County is seen as a cure to local gridlock that will attract a younger workforce to some and a waste of

"I've been the ghostwriter at City Hall for 30 years," says Robert Danielson, marketing director for the city of St. Petersburg. In that role, one of his duties is to write proclamations on subjects like National Drinking Water Week.

 

But the LGBT Pride Month proclamation, which Mayor Rick Kriseman read at a June 12 City Council meeting - that one was different.

Tampa Bay Times: In a first, rainbow flag raised over St. Petersburg City Hall

 

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman presided over the raising of the gay pride flag Thursday morning at City Hall.

 

The rainbow flag will be flown in front of City Hall for most of the weekend, and the mayor himself will attend the June 28 parade.

Tampa Bay Business Journal: Big stars expected at Blue Ocean Film Fest in St. Pete

 

A film festival that featured "Titanic" filmmaker James Cameron, Prince Albert II of Monaco and "Battlestar Galactica" actor Edward James Olmos in past years will make its St. Petersburg debut this fall.

 

 Blue Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit, a celebration of movies, art and ocean advocacy, is scheduled Nov. 3-9.
