Family Movie - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be showing a FREE family movie on Saturday, May 31 at 1:00 p.m.  The movie will either be rated G or PG.  Light refreshments will be available.  Children under 10 must have an adult present.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

 

-The Westland City Council Meeting will be held on Monday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers in Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-There will be a meeting of the Planning Commission on Tuesday, June 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

 

Fire Station Ground Breaking Ceremony - City dignitaries, department heads and members of the Westland City Council are inviting residents, the press and business leaders to join them in a Groundbreaking Ceremony to inaugurate the construction of Westland's new Ralph Savini Fire Station. With shovels in hand, they will gather at the site of the new fire station, located next to the former Service Merchandise building on Tuesday, June 3 at 3:30 p.m. to kick off a momentous occasion in the City's history.

 

History of Eloise - The History of Eloise Hospital event will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Kay Beard Building, located at 30600 Michigan Ave. Local Historian Jo Johnson will lead a presentation on the former Eloise Hospital grounds while Georgia Baker will discuss her time growing up at Eloise during its heyday.  

 

Alzheimer's WorkshopThe American Alzheimer's Association will be hosting a workshop on knowing the signs for early detecting of Alzheimer's. Join the Friendship Center on Tuesday, June 17, 10 - 11 am. Come on out and learn the facts and the importance of early detection. RSVP to 734-996-9570. 

 

Westland Farmers Market Re-Opening - The Westland Farmers Market is back for the season and will open on Thursday, June 5.  The Market will be open ever Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will be located at Central City Park.  Later in the summer, the market will be moved to the brand new Farmers Market Pavilion which is currently being built.  Come out and enjoy some locally grown goodies.

 

Schweitzer Elementary Spring Carnival - Schweitzer Elementary will be hosting its Spring Carnival on Thursday, June 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The school is located on the corner of Treadwell and Glenwood.  Tickets are 4/$1 or you can purchase wristbands for $10.  Wristbands give you unlimited access to carnival games and inflatables.  The event is open to the public and all proceeds will go back to the school.  

 

Friday Movie Summer Season - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library kicks off their 2014 Friday Movie Summer Season on Friday, June 6. This summer the library is showing current or contemporary movies that fall under their Summer Reading Program theme: "Fizz, Boom, Read." This Friday's movie, The Prestige, falls under the "Fizz" category, which will feature movies about magic or mad scientists. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie will begin at 7 pm. Check out the library's website for more information on their Summer Movie and Summer Reading programs.

 

 

Blood Pressure/ Glucose Screening-   Every Thursday there will be blood pressure/ glucose screenings by Rite Choice Home Health at the Friendship Center located at 1119 N Newburgh rd. For more information contact 734-722-7628.
