Light Rail Launch and Fiber Fun: June 14 |
Join Textile Center in Celebrating the Grand Opening of the Green Line
Saturday June 14, 2014, 10 am - 4 pm
In celebration of the Green Line METRO light rail launch, Textile Center and partner Weavers Guild of MN announce a train-load of community, participatory art activities.
|
World Wide Knit in Public Day
With the launch coinciding with the official World Wide Knit in Public Week, Textile Center will play host to a bevy of knitters, knitting the day away along the outside of our building as the trains go by. For those not versed in the method of knitting, artists will teach finger- and arm-knitting and kumihimo braiding in the Textile Center lobby.

Spin Your Way Across the Street
Follow the trail of hand-spinners as they spin their wheels across the street, in the process demonstrating an amazing art form. Spinners will be able to choose from an array of specialty fibers─including the shed fur from LIVE angora rabbits in the lobby─to create yarn. The row of spinners will be stationed from Textile Center, across the street to the new community gardens situated two blocks north.
|
Gardens Galore
Visitors to the new Cornerstone Garden (located across the street from the Prospect Park Station), will be able to create their own milkweed "seed bombs." Textile Center is partnering with Prospect Park Community Gardens to create the garden. At the garden's heart are large beds of dye plants. Milkweed, famous for its importance to the monarch butterfly, has long been used as a natural dye. Textile Center is the home to the region's only professionally-equipped accessible dye lab, where such plants can be utilized.

Glorious New Parking Spaces Available |
|
|
You spoke out. We listened. And now Textile Center is thrilled to announce....
We've more than doubled our parking spaces! We've just taken over the lot behind 3014 University (formerly Nano/Logic Systems)--the second lot to the east of Textile Center's parking lot.
The 17 new spaces are clearly marked for visitors to Textile Center. Look for the bright yellow signs with our logo, the new yellow lines on the pavement marking the spots, and the words "Textile Center Parking Only" on the pavement to guide you to the right spaces. These new spaces are available all the time (not just evenings and weekends).
With these additional 17 parking spots, the Nice Ride bicycle station located across the street, and the Green Line METRO light rail opening imminently, there are more ways than ever to come to Textile Center!
Please note: The two rows of parking in the middle, in between Textile Center and the new lot, behind Best Care Home Health Care⎯are NOT available to Textile Center's patrons before 5 pm on weekdays. Be sure not to park in those spots; violators will be towed.
