Harvard University Gender Violence Project with 'Gender Justice and Criminal Law Reform Conference' held on July 12-13, 2013 in Delhi.

The Harvard Gender Violence Project (HGVP) hosted the"Gender Justice, Criminal Law and Curricular Reforms" on July 12-13, 2013 at the India International Centre, New Delhi.

 Justice (Retd.) Leila Seth, Former Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh, elaborated on the two key issues: girl's right to be born and nurtured and the criminalization of marital rape. Mr. Gopal Subramanian, Former Solicitor-General of India, stressed the need for "surgery and not mild medication" when it came to enforcing accountability amongst police officers. Mr. Soli J. Sorabjee, Former Attorney General of India emphasized the need for change in mindset where women are not attributed as second class citizens in a male dominated society. Participants agreed on the need for concrete next steps to advance the valuable yet largely ignored recommendations of the Verma Committee report. More information is available on the SAI website.

Nora Maginn, SAI Programs Manager and Payal Narain, SAI Delhi coordinator led a group of 17 Harvard students who came to Delhi from their internships and research sites in Bangalore, Jaipur, Pune, and Gujarat for a five day experience visiting NGOs, Social Entrepreneurs, and a village in Haryana that bridges the rural and urban divide among youth learning. Click here to read student reflections. Additionally the Harvard Club of Delhi, The Harvard India Student Group and SAI teamed up to host the annual 'One Harvard Young Harvard' dinner attended by over 80 people.

Rabtt, Summer school in Lahore, partially funded by the Omidyar Grant for Entrepreneurial Solutions at SAI.

Imran Sarwar, HKS '13 co founder of Rabtt, a 3-week summer camp for underprivileged boys and girls in Lahore. He was joined by a team of four Harvard students, Asad Husain, HBS '13, Saniya Ansar, HKS'13, and Nora Elsheikh, HKS '14 and group of volunteers at the two camp sites this summer. Courses included English, math, public speaking, world history, art and drama. The program also included a field trip to the Lahore Planetarium and the Science Museum.
