 AIDT Brookley Hosts SAWDC Aviation Cluster Meeting

On August 15th, SAWDC in partnership with the Alabama Aviation Center, a division of Enterprise State Community College, held its third quarterly Aviation and Aerospace Advisory Council meeting at AIDT Brookley Complex. Council members in attendance included representatives from Airbus, ST Aerospace Mobile, Segers Aero Corporation, UTC Aerospace Systems, and Mobile Airport Authority.  Also represented were the National Fund for Workforce Solutions, Alabama Technology Network, Mobile Area Education Foundation, Baldwin County Schools, and Alabama Career Center - Mobile.

 The Count Down Has Begun!
.....for the 2013 SAWDC Worlds of Opportunity (aka "WoO"), which is being held at the Mobile Civic Center on Wednesday, September 25th, and Thursday, September 26th.  The  purpose of the event is to expose students to careers available locally and to demonstrate what each career involves through an interactive, engaging series of activities.  
 
In its fourth year, WoO is expected to host over 10,000 8th grade students, teachers, counselors, and parents from SAWDC's 8-county region.  Again, this year, there are over 100 regional companies represented in twelve worlds. Click here to check out the new SAWDC WoO website and learn more about how you can get plugged into this exciting event!

Weyerhaeuser Co. Reopening in Conecuh County

 

Weyerhaeuser Co. announced it will restart production immediately at its long-idled Castleberry, Alabama, lumber plant and hire as many as 100 people by the close of 2014.

 

"We are thrilled to welcome Weyerhaeuser back to Conecuh County. Weyerhaeuser is an excellent company and bringing this plant back online will have an extraordinarily positive impact on the entire region," said Coastal Gateway Regional Economic Development Alliance Chairman Larry Woods.
