Memorial Day Parade - The Wayne-Westland Veterans Parade Council has an exciting parade planned to honor our veterans.  The event will be Sunday, May 25 starting at 1:00 p.m.  The parade will start at Town N Country Lanes, located at 1100 S. Wayne Rd and will head south down Wayne Rd.  There will be a small ceremony held at the bridge in front of the Wayne Library. 

 

Memorial Day Alters City Hours and Trash Pick Up - All City offices, including the library, recycling center and 18th District Court, will be closed on Monday, May 26 due to the Memorial Day holiday.  There will be no trash or recycling pick-up on Memorial Day and will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.  The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will also be closed on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25.  The library will continue to be closed on Sundays through Labor Day.

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

 

-There will be a meeting of the Downtown Development Authority on Thursday, May 29 at 12:00 p.m. in Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

 

Wild's Walkers Relay for Life Hot Dog Fundraiser - Residents are invited to join Mayor Wild's Relay for Life team at a Hot Dog Fundraiser on Friday, May 30 starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m.  Please stop by and join us for lunch.  The cost will be $5 and will include a large all beef hot dog, chips and a drink.  All proceeds will go towards the American Cancer Society and will help Wild's Walkers meet their fundraising goal.  The Hot Dog Fundraiser will be held at the Friendship Center, located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.

 

Friday Night Movie - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library is hosting its weekly "Friday Night Movie" on Friday, May 30.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will start at 7:00 p.m.  This week's movie is, "Her" (Rated R).  For each movie, there will be movie related trivia, prizes, snacks and refreshments.

 

Family Movie - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be showing a FREE family movie on Saturday, May 31 at 1:00 p.m.  The movie will either be rated G or PG.  Light refreshments will be available.  Children under 10 must have an adult present.

 

Blood Pressure/ Glucose Screening-   Every Thursday there will be blood pressure/ glucose screenings by Rite Choice Home Health at the Friendship Center located at 1119 N Newburgh rd. For more information contact 734-722-7628.
