Shred Day at the Library - Don't keep those old financial documents hanging around your house.  Bring up to 100 pounds of paper documents to be shredded at our 3rd annual Community Shred at the William P. Faust Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway. The shred day will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  General Shredding of Grosse Pointe Woods will be outside in the parking lot near the Veterans Memorial to help you in a friendly and efficient manner.

 

Easter Egg Scramble- The Westland Jaycees will be sponsoring the 17th annual Easter Egg Scramble on Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m.and Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. in Jaycee Park located at 6210 N Wildwood. The Easter Egg scrambled is for ages 14 and younger in the Westland Community, and will be divided into age groups. The first 100 kids will receive at Kid Care Id kit located by local businesses. The MI Animal Rescue group is bringing adoptable friends, and the Jaycees are encouraging the community to bring items to donate from the Rescue Groups Wish List - cat litter, canned dog food, canned cat food, dry cat food or any other item on the list at www.fmar1.org. Anyone who donates an item will be given an extra ticket for a prize! For more infomation, contact the Jaycees at 734-858- 4811.

 

 Red Cross Blood Drive-  The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive on Monday, April 14 at the Westland Public library located at 6123 Central City Parkway from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Donors can sign up at the Red Cross website www.redcrossblood.org or call 800-RED-CROSS.  Anyone 17 (16 with permission slip) or older may donate, and all donors are entered into a drawing for a $150 Kroger Gift Card.

 

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location. 

 

- There will be a Housing Commission Meeting on Tuesday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dorsey Center located at 32715 Dorsey. 

-The Parks and Recreation Advisory will meet on Tuesday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-There will be a meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

-The Downtown Development Authority Board will be meeting on Thursday, April 17  at 8:00 am at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Road. This meeting is open to residents, business owners, property owners, and anyone interested in learning about DDA projects and activities.

 

 

Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening-  Beginning Thursday, April 17, from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. every Thursday there will be Blood pressure and Glucose Screenings by Rite Choice Home Health at the Friendship Center located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.

 

Marshmallow Drop- Wayne County Parks will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Marshmallow Drop on Friday, April 18.  More than 20,000 marshmallows will be dropped from the Easter Bunny's helicopter and collected to trade in for prizes, and the finder of the colored marshmallow wins an extra special prize. The event is divided into age groups 4 years old and younger, 5-7 years old, and 8-12 years old, in order to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate. This event is located at Elizabeth Park. on Jefferson east of I-75 and south of West Road in Trenton at 9:00 a.m., and Nankin Mills located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail in Westland  at 11:00 a.m. This event in free and open to the public! Easter Bunny Brunch-  On Friday, April 18 the Easter Bunny will be at the Wayne Community Center. Breakfast will be served from 10:30 a.m till noon, and includes a breakfast of pancakes and sausage, arts and crafts, and face painting. Photo packages with the Easter Bunny will also be available for purchase.Tickets are on sale at the Wayne Community Center located at 4635 Howe in Wayne. Tickets will be available to residents for $5 and $6 for non-residents.  For more information, contact the Wayne Community Center at 734-721-7400. 

 

 

 

Mike Modano Ice Arena - The Mike Modano Ice Arena offers an open skate on      Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m.,
 Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. - 3:20 p.m., Sundays from 3:30 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. and a Glow Skate every Friday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.   The Mike Modano Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
