April 2014
Dear WE LEARN Community,
Welcome to our new newsletter! It was great to see everyone in Providence for the conference last month, and we want to stay in regular contact with all of you. We'll be sending you news and updates each month. Our conversations in Providence gave us a lot of ideas for moving WE LEARN forward, and this newsletter is one way you can stay up to date on what's happening. If you'd like to write an article for the newsletter, or have a suggestion for something we should include, please send us an email: [board@welearnwomen.org].

Success Is a Matter of Perspective

by Nagibh Zindani

Society's meaning of success tends to lean toward financial prosperity. Sure, you can view at someone driving an expensive car or living in an expensive house and believe them to be quite successful, but I look at people who have been married for fifty years and still love each other deeply as a success to envy.....

We have developed a survey for members so that you can give us an idea of how you would like to be involved. You can fill out the survey online by clicking here.
  • Speaking of members...Most people renew their memberships just before conference. So to make it easy for everyone, memberships now renew annually March through February. But we encourage new members to join at any time. See more about membership here.

Too Scared to Learn: Teaching that Makes a Difference to Successful Learning
Friday, May 16th, 2:00 - 3:00 PM (EST)

Presenter: Jenny Horsman, Spiral Community Resource Group

The latest brain research provides solid ground for opening new conversations and exploring simple strategies that make teaching and learning less frustrating. Paying attention to how to create new pathways in the brain, to reshape the brain in the aftermath of trauma, should be at the core of teaching, not the extra we believe we have no time for when going gets tough. This session will provide a brief straight-forward introduction to the brain research, what to do in the classroom, and where to find further resources.
