GiveBIG Today to Prevent Youth Suicide

The Seattle Foundation's second annual GiveBIG one-day, online giving event is happening right now.

From midnight to midnight today, May 2, you can make a donation to YSPP through our donation page on the GiveBIG website.

A portion of your gift will be matched, generating even more funds for youth suicide prevention. Also, if your donation is chosen at random, you'll win a Golden Ticket, and an additional $1,000 will be given to YSPP. That means 33 more people will be able to benefit from suicide prevention training. You'll also be entered to win a $100 gift card to Starbucks.

Please take a moment right now to go to YSPP's GiveBIG donation page and help prevent youth suicide in Washington State.

Thank you!

A Student Steps up to Receive Suicide Prevention Information

It was parent-teacher conference night at Battle Ground High School, and YSPP Clark & Cowlitz County Field Coordinator Mary Jadwisiak was about to give the YSPP training "Coping with Adolescent Stress and Depression."

Battle Ground High School had experienced the death by suicide of two current students and one recent graduate in the past seven months.

The night started off dishearteningly. Only three people showed up to the training, and participants for the financial aid workshop that was immediately following began to arrive, but most of them just ignored YSPP.

Then something happened that made it all worthwhile.

More Than 2,700 Trained in Suicide Prevention This Year

YSPP has been busy this year training teens and adults how to recognize the warning signs of sucide, help someone in distress and combat bullying in schools.

So far this year, we've held almost 90 trainings, workshops and presentations across the state, everything from ASIST trainings to peer-to-peer presentations to teachers and school staff trainings. More than 600 teens and more than 2,000 adults (including parents, teachers, counselors and concerned community members) have learned what to do and what to say to help a youth in crisis.

Night of Jazz - May 17

The 4th Annual Night of Jazz: You Can Save a Life Tonight is just a little more than two weeks away.

Seats are filling up and great items -- including trips to Italy, Orcas Island and Mt. Baker as well as fabulous dinners in Seattle and even Paris -- are ready to be auctioned off to raise the funds youths in our state need to prevent suicide.

Thank you to everyone who has donated an item or registered. Because of you, it's bound to be the best Night of Jazz in YSPP history, and distressed youths across the state will benefit from your generosity.
