2nd Cohort starting May 29th: Seeking Nursing Homes and Mentors for Quality Improvement Project

WCPE was awarded a grant by the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services to establish a pilot program that would identify, develop and disseminate evidence-based technical assistance and resources to help 24 Wisconsin nursing homes achieve their quality and organizational goals.  We recently completed the first cohort of the project.

We have a handful of slots open for nursing homes as well as volunteer mentor/coaches to train and support them for the second cohort of the study. The project is open to nursing homes in Wisconsin, each of which will receive a laptop computer for their participation. Each volunteer mentor/coach must be knowledgeable in basic quality concepts and tools. A small honorarium will be provided to mentors.

If you are interested in applying your expertise to help nursing homes learn and develop confidence in using quality tools, or you are affiliated with a Wisconsin nursing home and are interested in participating, please contact us at your earliest convenience at (608) 441-8206 or [email protected].

Start Your Performance Excellence Journey Any Time with a Challenger or Fast Forward Application

Wisconsin Forward Award

W
hether you have already embraced the Baldrige framework or are brand new to the Criteria for Performance Excellence, applying for the Wisconsin Forward Award can be a great step in setting your organization on the path to excellence and all that it entails - more efficient processes, more satisfied customers, a more engaged staff, and better results. No matter where you are in the process, we are here to help you along the way.  Here are some ways to get started that require less time and expense than a full WFA application:

The Wisconsin Challenge Profile is the perfect starting place for organizations new to the Baldrige framework. The Challenger helps organizations get started by responding to straightforward questions about their organizational context and key results which will help lay groundwork for future improvement efforts-as well as future applications.

Wisconsin Fast Forward is the beginning-to-intermediate-level application that is focused on helping organizations tell their improvement story. With no page limits or strict formatting guidelines, the Fast Forward allows organizations to focus on what they are doing, along with key results.

Wisconsin Challenge Profile and Fast Forward applications are accepted throughout the year, and each organization receives a written feedback report at the conclusion of the process.

For more details on the different levels of the Wisconsin Forward Award process, or to download application materials, click here.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact WCPE Executive Director Liz Menzer at (608) 441-8206 or [email protected].  We will be happy to assist you.

What's Right in Education Conference

The Studer Group is a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient, and while primarily known for work in health care, Studer has been expanding into the education market. A number of Wisconsin school districts are becoming engaged with Studer as part of their performance excellence journeys. Studer Education's third annual What's Right in Education conference will be held in Chicago, IL on August 6th, 2014.  The conference will be presented by superintendents, board members, and school leaders with proven results in student achievement, parent satisfaction, workforce engagement, and service excellence. Quint Studer, a nationally acclaimed speaker, best-selling author, and founder of StuderGroup, will be a featured presenter at the conference.

Conference attendees are encouraged to bring up to three members of the school board and/or executive team to hear about the results achieved by applying Evidence-Based Leadership (EBL), an execution framework that aligns goals, actions, and processes and enables school boards to hardwire a culture of excellence throughout their districts.

Using Teach Back to Promote Clear Communication -
May 14 Webinar

Teach back is a tool that is often used in clinical settings, but has many applications in organizations that need to ensure customers understand and retain key product or service information.

WCPE is pleased to share this webinar opportunity that has relevance across sectors.

Studies have shown that 40-80% of the medical information that patients receive is forgotten immediately and nearly half the information retained is incorrect. One of the easiest ways to close the gap of communication between clinician and patient is to employ the "teach back" method.

This method confirms that you have explained to the patient what they need to know in a way they can understand. In this session, presenters will teach participants how to identify and use strategies such as teach back to promote patient engagement by improving communication and health literacy.

The webinar will be held from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm on May 14th. Click here for details.

Just Culture
Certification Course

On June 17th-19th, Community Care will be hosting Outcome Engenuity's Just Culture Certification Course in Milwaukee. Just culture is integral to and closely aligned with the core concepts that define high-performing and high-reliability organizations. Increasingly, organizations have come to recognize the benefit of adopting the Just Culture Framework.

There are four focus areas within the Just Culture framework:

  • Learning Culture: A humble attitude that places emphasis on teamwork and acknowledges that we do not know everything.
  • Open and Fair Culture: Learning      requires an environment of transparency, which in turn requires an open and fair culture, which does not unjustly punish and places emphasis on behavioral choices for determining disciplinary action.
  • Safe Systems: System design includes the structure, processes, and resources. It is how we do our work and the tools we have to get it done.
  • Behavioral Choices: Organizational culture weighs heavily in the behavioral choices employees make. Thus, the entire organization must be aligned in their values.

This program is rarely offered as an "open attendance" program in

Wisconsin and registration is limited. To access the course details and the registration link, please click here
