Lean Leadership Visioning Tour

The MWCC invites you to join a leader's study tour going inside some of the leading lean companies of Southeastern Michigan. This two-day trip is designed to provide lean leaders with ideas and inspiration to guide their organizations' lean journeys.
Tour stops include:
  • Menlo Innovations: A study in employee-centric culture, customer focus, lean leadership and lean in a project management world.
  • Zingerman's Mail Order: See superior examples of standard work and training, mixed-model flow and visual controls.
  • Maker Works: A lean, member-based workshop for startups, tinkerers, and small business - a model "Maker Community."
  • Leadership Breakfast with Mike Rother: The author of Learning to See and Toyota Kata leads a small group discussion on lean leadership.
  • DTE Energy: Lean transformation lessons-learned from SE Michigan's energy utility, serving over 2 million people.
  • Society of Manufacturing Engineers: Stop in at SME Headquarters to learn about products and services supporting every company's lean transformation.
  • Ford Rouge Plant Tour: Get a birds-eye view of lean and green manufacturing on the site of Henry Ford's crowning achievement.

Make It In Maryland

The Maryland World Class Consortia is pleased to launch the alliance of the Maryland MEP, the MWCC, and RMI of Maryland with the Make It In Maryland event the evening of 7 May!

Make It In Maryland is dedicated to showcasing Maryland manufacturers, their impact on the state economy, and highlighting manufacturing successes. Network and broaden your contacts of Maryland manufacturing businesses.  Enjoy keynote discussions with keynote speaker, Congressman Steny Hoyer, and Paul Reed Smith of PRS Guitars.

MWCC Quarterly Meeting

 The MWCC holds regular meetings each quarter for members, potential members, and all others interested in business process improvement. Network, share and learn at our half-day "mini-conference"!
Speakers this quarter:
  • Cindy Myers of Green Leaf Plants will describe her company's multi-year efforts to apply lean tools and principles to this nursery and wholesale distributor in Lancaster, PA. In a highly variable and labor-intensive industry, hear about their results and lessons-learned.
  • Ed Kestel of Orbital Sciences will provide an intro into Policy Deployment (aka: Hoshin Planning) and how Orbital uses it to link high-level business strategy to small groups across all levels and functions of the organization.
  • Andrea Ross, Business Systems Analyst and Project Manager for the Virginia Department of Corrections has immersed herself in lean for information technology. Learn how Lean IT brings lean methods to the IT function of any organization.
