5 days left to enter the 2014 WLT Book Awards Contest! All materials must be postmarked by Friday, April 25th.
Did you publish a book in 2013? Are you a current or past resident of the state of Texas? If your answer to both these questions is yes, we invite you to enter the annual Writers' League of Texas Book Awards Contest. (This includes you, self-published authors!) Previously known as the Violet Crown Book Awards (founded in 1991) and the Teddy Children's Book Awards (founded in 1996), this longstanding contest recognizes outstanding published books in the following categories:
- Fiction
- Nonfiction
- Poetry & Literary Prose
- Picture Books
- Middle Grade & Young Adult Books
This contest is open to self-published authors as well as traditionally-published authors. Publishers may submit on behalf of authors or authors may submit their own books. Winners in each category receive a $750 cash prize, a commemorative award, and public recognition at the 2014 Texas Book Festival in Austin, Texas.
Last year's competition drew more than 200 entries, both self-published and traditionally published, spread across five categories. Winners of the 2013 Book AwardsContest included Faith Bass Darling's Last Garage Sale by Lynda Rutledge (Putnam); The Sinister Sweetness of Splendid Academy by Nikki Loftin (Razorbill); Floyd Patterson: The Fighting Life of Boxing's Invisible Champion by WK Stratton (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt); Strange Light by Derrick C.
