COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT & ENGAGEMENT
Spokes Bike Program

As our Health & Wellness Division expands beyond

youth sports, the Spokes Bicycle Safety and Maintenance program will play a large role in our After School Program sites. Recently awarded a Safe Routes to School Grant by San Mateo County, Spokes will host classes at 6 sites in the 2014-2015 school year.

A big thank you to Jacob Hodgdon, Recreation Specialist with Park & Rec, for making our pilot programs a huge success!

Cooking Matters
The Cooking Matters program is a six-week free cooking/nutrition program for teens. The program is offered through Collective Roots, a non-profit organization from East Palo Alto that seeks to "promote food justice by engaging youth and communities in garden-based learning and nutrition education to positively impact health". In each class, students learn two or three delicious and healthy recipes that they can take home to share with their families, and at the end of the six-week course, students get to take home a cookbook with the recipes they have learned.  The goal of the program is to teach youths fundamental cooking skills and how to make healthy eating choices.

We look forward to offering more classes throughout the 2014-2015 school year.
