Religious Perspectives in Bioethics - A Narrative Journey

Too frequently, a patient's religious perspectives are viewed as complications to communication and care coordination, failing to take into consideration how a patient's faith is reflected in their health care choices. End of Year Banquet
The entire community (including spouses, partners, and children) is invited to the End of Year Banquet. We will honor our third year students and celebrate the end of the academic year. Banquet runs form 7:30 - 9:30pm, followed by a little dancing. You can still register to attend if you haven't already so we know who to expect.
 Pathways in Ministry Survey
Thanks to all who have participated in the various Pathways in Ministry offerings this year - we had about 174 participants total in all of the events. As we plan for next year it would be tremendously helpful to hear from you what worked well, what needs improvement, and what other workshops we might offer to assist your vocational discernment and planning. So, please take 5-10 minutes to complete this survey and offer your feedback.
Worship Leadership for Rising Third Years
A survey went to all rising third year students who are interested in providing worship leadership next year. Please remember to complete the survey no later than May 1 so the Chapel Committee can make plans for next year. If you have any questions please contact Chris Copeland.
Special Announcement and Invitation The Baptist Joint Committee's annual Religious Liberty Council luncheon to be held in conjunction with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship General Assembly in Atlanta, GA. The event will be held on Friday, June 27, at 11:30 a.m. in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. A generous donor has purchased five seats for Wake Div students to attend the luncheon. This year's speaker is Melissa Rogers, special assistant to the president and executive director of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnership. Melissa was the BJC's associate general counsel from 1994-1999 and the general counsel from 1999-2000. She also served as director of the Center for Religion and Public Affairs at Wake Forest University Divinity School and a nonresident senior fellow at The Brooking Institution. In 2008, she co-authored a book titled Religious Freedom and the Supreme Court. If you are interested in attending, please email Mary Ellen Walter in the Office of Admissions and Student Services no later than May 23rd. Upcoming Conferences That May Interest You - The Hampton Ministers' Conference 100th Anniversary: Held June 1-6, 2014 at Hampton University in Virginia, this year's theme is "Honor Our Past, Anticipating Our Future." The Hampton Ministers' Conference began in 1914 to address the growing concerns of the African-American church and its relationship to the community. The conference welcomes anyone from all Christian denominations, which is what originally set the Hampton conference apart and has led to the success seen today. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) is a fellowship of Baptist Christians who share a passion for the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice. - Wild Goose Festival: Held June 26-29, 2014 in Hot Springs, NC, the Wild Goose Festival is a community gathered at the intersection of justice, spirituality, music, and art. It is an 4-day, outdoor festival. "Wild Goose" is a Celtic spirituality metaphor that evokes unpredictability, beauty, and grace. Learn more and register at http://www.wildgoosefestival.org. One of this year's featured speakers is Fred Bahnson. Other speakers include Sara Miles, Jim Wallis, and Brian D. McLaren.
Registration Open for Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Thursday, May 8, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Goodwill Industries, Central Meeting Room (2701 University Parkway, Winston-Salem)
The Mental Health Association in Forsyth County and CenterPoint Human Services are co-sponsoring a "Youth Mental Health First Aid" training. Interested participants must register in advance and pay online at www.triadmentalhealth.org (click "Events" once there). This training is educational and introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, ages 12-18. It will also teach how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. The cost is $55.00 a person which includes lunch, training materials, and certification. You must be present all day to receive certification.
