Saturday, April 12th at 2pm

William H. White comes to Page 1 Books on Saturday, April 12th at 2pm to talk about his book The Pancho Villa Treasure of the Guadalupe Mountains.

It all began before the turn of the twentieth century when Pancho Villa and his faithful lieutenant Leonardo Regaldo took by force of arms a massive treasure stolen from the Mexican people by the despot dictator Porfirio. In the mid 1980's, the search and recovery of this treasure was to become a contest of wills between the direct descendants of Leonardo and Porfirio. Carl Webb and Jack Morgan get unwittingly entangled in this conflict and a simple treasure hunt soon becomes a deadly contest between the opposing forces. It was in the remote reaches of the Guadalupe Mountains of New Mexico where the two groups fought it out with no quarter given on either side. Will Carl Webb and Jack Morgan survive this military assault? Author William H. White now lives in rural New Mexico where he writes stories of adventure and treasure hunting when not conducting tours in the Caballo Mountains. This is the second book in the series with Carl Webb and Jack Morgan as the main characters.

This event is free & open to the public.
Saturday, April 26th at 3pm

Local Author Ann Piper comes to Page 1 Books on Saturday, April 26th at 3pm.

A mix of cultures unique to any space in North America funneled into the Albuquerque, New Mexico, area after Spanish invaders stumbled in through the south in 1506. For centuries, indigenous Americans had established ways of knowing and transmitting learning to their young, but colliding old and new cultures left the area's learning communities irrevocably changed. Subsequently, other native tribes and more European, South American, and Asian cultures proudly ported their perceived best practices concerning educating youth into the area. In 1880, the railroad, bolstered by powerful Anglo economic forces, blasted into Albuquerque, carrying new cultures clinging to the railcars: Greeks, Italians, Germans, Jews of many heritages, English, Easterners, Southerners, a host of cowboys, farmers, merchants, and more--all shadowed by motivated politicians. The founding, unfolding, and evolution of educational systems in Albuquerque weaves a crazy-quilt story regarding public, private, and parochial schooling--as well as regrettably ill-founded systems that wronged natives.

This event is free & open to the public.

Dorothy Must Die
by Danielle Paige
Teen Mystery/Horror

I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado-taking you with it-you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though-but even that's crumbling.

What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm-and I'm the other girl from Kansas.
I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I've been trained to fight.
And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman's heart.
Steal the Scarecrow's brain.
Take the Lion's courage.
Then and only then-Dorothy must die!
