Spring is finally upon us and it has been a busy one already!

Early in March, Harley's Parent Council presented the documentary Beginning With the End featuring Bob Kane and Harley Hospice alumni from the classes of 2012 and 2013. The film was a beautifully done and was recently featured and given rave reviews at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

Blast! 2014 was a huge success--we auctioned off student artwork, dog walking services, a sommelier beer service from alumnus Don Lindsay '76, spa treatments, a car, trips to Disney, even Brazil. We can not thank our event sponsors enough, including Constellation Brands, M&T Bank, and O'Connell Electric, for helping to underwrite the evening. We would especially like to thank our parents and alumni who attended or donated their time and services to make this evening so outstanding for the School!

Our Head of School tour continues in May as we head to Washington, D.C. and Boston, and a Garden Party in the Rochester area during Reunion weekend in June.

Beginning With The End
Beginning With The End was featured at this year's SXSW Film Festival and received "fantastic reviews."
The documentary, Beginning With The End, was presented at The Harley School on Tuesday, March 18 to a large crowd of Harley parents, grandparents, alumni, friends, and Rochester community members. The film, directed by local filmmaker, David Marshall, and associate producer Ashley Sands '07, followed Bob Kane and Harley Hospice participants over a two-year span. The movie was touching, beautiful, sad, and funny. Much of it took place in The Harley School during various Hospice classes, as well as hospice houses in the Rochester. Some of the most honest pieces took place during the "dashboard moments." This was a time when the students would speak to the camera about their thoughts and feelings while heading out or coming home from their time volunteering.

Following the movie, Bob Kane, David Marshall, and James D'Amanda '05, interim director of the Center for Mindfulness and Empathy Education, came up front for a Q&A. Both David and James spoke about the inspirational work of Bob and the outstanding Hospice program at Harley. David and Bob then invited any students involved in the film up on stage. Lily Frye '12, Emily Hanss '13, Josh Shechter '12, and Mario Tefera'13 answered questions from the audience about the impact of the Hospice class and how it affects them today. They all stated that they are stronger for it and that the experience changed their outlook on life.

Beginning With The End is currently "on the road" doing the film circuit across the country. David Marshall assures us that once they are finished promoting, they'll be back in Rochester.
