Your gift makes a major difference in the life of wolves like Lakota.

Lakota in his forever home at Wolf Haven
Lakota - before Wolf Haven

This is the story of Lakota, a 2-1/2 year old male wolf living in Olympia, WA, just a few miles from Wolf Haven. He and two other wolves were "owned" by someone who bred them for sale. On October 4, 2013, Lakota escaped from his backyard kennel. For a few hours, he was an unknowing and unwilling celebrity as reporters and journalists covered the story of the escaped wolf running loose.

Narrow Escape

After a few tense hours, a WA Department of Fish and Wildlife officer chemically immobilized Lakota and returned him to his owner. At Wolf Haven, we breathed a sigh of relief that this poor animal hadn't been shot and killed. Our relief was short-lived, however, when we learned that the owner
now wanted to have Lakota euthanized.
Lakota & Sequra at Wolf Haven
The Final Escape - to Wolf Haven

We rescued Lakota and brought him to Wolf Haven, where he now shares an enclosure with Sequra, a 13-year old wolfdog. He is not the same aggressive animal that we initially saw. We respect Lakota for what he is - a wolf - and he and Sequra have become fast friends.

Thanks to YOUR generosity and support, Lakota will have many years to pursue "wolfy" endeavors. Your donation makes it possible for Wolf Haven to rescue wolves from bad situations and provide a haven - a lifetime home of peace, companionship and quality care. It provides us the resources to continue our public outreach against keeping wolves and wolfdogs as pets. We ask you to give a gift that makes a major difference in the life of wolves like Lakota. Thank you for your generosity of spirit.
