Last month (in between snowstorms), the Boonsboro Environmental Commission hosted an information session on the Maryland Green Registry and Maryland Green Travel programs to help area businesses enroll in these two programs. Boonsboro is committed to a sustainable future for their community and has a number of initiatives underway. They have an active environmental commission, host the annual Boonsboro Green Fest, and are applying for designation as a Sustainable Maryland certified community. Their local businesses are also committed to reducing their environmental impacts and are always looking to do more.  Learn about new Boonsboro Maryland Green Registry members:  Enkore Kids, Gifts Inn BoonsBoro, Fit In Boonsboro, Town of Boonsboro, Bee Landscaping, A Cut AboveTurn the Page Bookstore and hopefully more to come. Visit the Registry flickr page to see pictures from the visit

Let us know if your community would like to host a similar event.

Here's to a green Spring!

Maryland Green Registry Leadership Awards Application Period is April 8-30, 2014

The application for the 5th annual Maryland Green Registry Leadership Awards will be posted April 8th and is due April 30th. Leadership Award winners are recognized for achieving significant environmental results based on the type and size of their facility and operations. They also have a strong commitment to continual improvement of their environmental performance which they typically support through an active green team, the establishment of annual environmental goals, and the measurement of results. Get recognized for your hard work and inspire others by applying this year.  Any questions? Contact Laura Armstrong at green.registry@maryland.gov, or 410-537-4119.

If you've got a smartphone or camera, you've got a film studio.  It may not be a Spielberg production, but you certainly have a way to demonstrate your environmental practices to your audience more effectively than on paper. Videos submitted by Maryland Green Registry members will be added to our video library. The "play" symbol (on left) will also be added to your online profile with a link to the video.  If you'd like to bring in the pros, sort the Maryland Green Registry member list for "Marketing Services" to see video companies and public relations firms who can help you tell your story.  Submit by June 11 to be entered into a drawing for prizes at the annual Maryland Green Registry membership event.

Fix a Leak Week (March 17-23, 2014)

Leaks can waste more than a trillion gallons of water a year nationwide. Taking time to find and fix leaks at your facility or reporting them to building management will save you money on your utility bills.  For repair tips, visit EPA's WaterSense

website. For ideas and best management practices beyond plumbing fixture repair, check out the commercial and industrial water users page.
