DETAILS:  Twenty-six cyclists will ride 400 miles from Sandy Hook, Connecticut to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. from March 8-11, 2014 to support common sense legislation to reduce gun violence, to honor all of the victims of gun violence, and to spread a message of peace, hope and love along the way.

Among the stops will be Greenwich, CT, where our friends at the Greenwich Council Against Gun Violence will be sponsoring the Greenwich Rally to Support the Sandy Hook Ride on Washington tomorrow.  Scheduled speakers include Senator Richard Blumenthal, Congressman Jim Himes, CT Attorney General George Jepsen, Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei, and more.  It will be a sunny and above-freezing day, perfect for an energetic, inspirational send-off to Team 26.  Music and bake sale before the press conference, so arrive early!



December 14, 2012 was an unspeakable tragedy which devastated us in so many ways.  The tragedy opened the eyes of many to gun violence that occurs every day in our urban environments.  Sponsored by the Newtown Action Alliance, Team 26 states, "We ride for all victims of gun violence.  We ride to remember them, and to push for common sense legislation to reduce the epidemic of gun violence that plagues our nation."

Four Newtown residents - Monte Frank, Bill Muzzio, Chris Peck and Armand Daccache - are members of Team 26 which includes a former Junior World Championships National Team member, US National Team member, Canadian National Team member, Maccabiah World Games Silver Medalist, State and Regional Champions, and Omar Samaha, whose sister Reema was killed in the Virginia Tech shootings.

Additional rallies to support Team 26 will be located in Newtown (8 AM), Ridgefield (10:30 AM), Morristown, Pennsylvania (Sunday March 9), and more.

Last year Team 26 rode from Sandy Hook to the Capitol and inspired the nation.  While the legislation we were so hopeful Congress would pass last spring was blocked by those who put politics ahead of our children's safety, we will not fade away.  The "Connecticut Effect" will not fade away.  Team 26 will keep pedaling until Congress acts, and we support their efforts!

In solidarity with our friends at the Greenwich Council Against Gun Violence, members of The ENOUGH Campaign along with an expected hundreds of supporters will welcome Team 26 to Greenwich on their ride from Sandy Hook to Washington, DC to honor victims of gun violence and call attention to the need for federal gun reform.

In 2013, Connecticut passed common-sense gun regulations to make our communities safer.  Now it's time for Washington to do the same.
