Greetings!

Greetings and blessings to you.  With spring nearly upon us, we are busily preparing for the The Bishop's 21st Annual Catholic Pro-Life Dinner on April 5.  The theme of this year's dinner is "Open Your Hearts to Life!", echoing the words of our Holy Father which were adopted by the U.S. Bishops as the Respect Life theme for 2013-14.  And we are so excited to welcome this year's featured guest: award-winning singer Collin Raye who will share his special pro-life story and a memorable musical performance!

By now you all should have received a packet of promotional materials for the dinner via email as well as posters and yard signs at the Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting (remaining posters and signs are being delivered to your parishes).  Below are links to electronic copies of these materials:

As we prepare for the big event, we cannot forget two important opportunities to support a Culture of Life. First, Tuesday, March 4, is Primary Election Day. It is critical that we exercise our faithful citizenship particularly regarding the critical life issues.  You may find polling information here, and please be sure to read and share Bishop Farrell's teaching statement on forming consciences for voting available here.  If your parish would like a presentation on Faithful Citizenship in English or Spanish in preparation for the general election this fall, please contact Susan Platt at civic@prolifedallas.org or 214-392-7545.

Second, the Lenten season begins this Ash Wednesday.  One wonderful opportunity to prayerfully experience Lent and unite our suffering and the suffering of those injured by abortion to Christ is the Good Friday Pro-Life Stations of the Cross on April 18 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. outside the Southwestern late-term abortion center, led by our Cistercian Fathers.  Additionally, McKinney 40 Days for Life will sponsor a 7 am. to 7 p.m. prayer vigil outside the McKinney Planned Parenthood throughout Lent.

Also this month is a Rachel's Vineyard™ Retreat in English on March 14-16 for those suffering from an abortion.  Please read and share a powerful testimony to these healing retreats here, and please keep all giving and making this amazing healing retreat in your prayers.

As we begin the season of Lent, let us focus not only on penance or depriving ourselves but also on living a virtuous life.  But what is virtue?  Virtue is "a habitual and firm disposition to do good."  (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC] #1833) Recently I read a book entitled Rediscover Catholicism by Matthew Kelly.  In it he addresses several areas of life that we should focus on to help us find our purpose in life.  It seems that as various states legalize policies and illicit actions that our faith and conscious tells us are wrong, a voice deep inside us should be calling us to action.  I suggest that each one of us look at our life and determine how we should rebuild our Church, our country and our world.

May God's blessings be upon you, as you live your Parish Pro-Life Coordinator commitment to saving God's precious babies, helping their mothers, and building a culture that respects all life, from conception to natural death!

Blessings,

David
