the university, UGA President Jere Morehead said in Tifton this week.

"I think Tifton (campus) is critical to the state; this is the University of Georgia for this part of the state," Morehead told the Tifton Rotary Club on Wednesday, April 2.

"I think we're going to remain strong here."

Morehead told Rotarians the Tifton campus is growing and that he is trying to, across the state, emulate the Tifton Campus' successful partnerships with local businesses.

"This community gets that point because that's what you do with UGA faculty in Tifton all the time," he said, but that is not necessarily the scenario everywhere.

Morehead has created an economic development office within UGA to facilitate making faculty members available to the business community to share knowledge and research.

"We want to see more of our faculty involved in the work that is important to the future of this state," the UGA president said.
