CONNECTING THE LIVING WITH THE LOST
Someone died and now you have their things. Or maybe just one thing. It might not even be valuable. An old spoon or a glove. But you can't bring yourself to throw it out. You can leave it here.
Post your photos to Instagram with the hash-tag #InTheseBoxes. Or send to[email protected]
Visiting musician- artist Dudley Saunders asks us to reach out locally in DC for photos of the objects people have inherited from loved ones and can't let go of. This performance incorporates images collected from local communities, particularly those who have lost loved ones too soon in part because they led lives in some way marginalized by society.
"In the fall of 1991, my two ex-lovers died of AIDS within two months of each other. What made it worse was realizing that nobody who remembered us together was still alive. The hidden meaning in ordinary objects haunted me."
Your personal contributions -gathered from our communities- will be incorporated into video art for Dudley's DC performance of IN THESE BOXES at Bloombars; a combination of video, song and stories that imagines the lives of lost people through the objects they left behind.
More about the project here: http://www.kcet.org/arts/artbound/counties/los-angeles/dudley-saunders-in-these-boxes.html
When: Saturday, March 8, 2014 8:00 pm Where: BloomBars 3222 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001, 202-567-7713
LITURGICAL DANCE MINISTRY TO SPONSOR A SIX-WEEK DANCE WORKSHOP "Have you ever felt the Spirit calling you to worship through movement, through dance? Liturgical dance is a powerful, passionate and transformative form of worship but often we allow things like technique or body image to hold us back. Josie Hoover, a Doctoral candidate at Wesley Theological Seminary, will be joining us for six weeks to demonstrate how powerful the ministry of liturgical dance can be in the life of worship. The start date is Thursday, March 13 at 6:30pm. We'll meet downstairs in the Music room. The prayer is to show/teach/remind dancers how liturgical dance is a worshiping arts ministry, how it is a calling and how to nurture their calling in dance (physically, spiritually, mentally). No previous dance experience is necessary and we hope that you will take this opportunity to worship with us and perhaps awaken new spiritual gifts within yourself. This opportunity is open to the ENTIRE congregation. TONIGHT!!
