Generations United in Reston, Virginia!

We're honored that Leah Bradley, our program director, was invited to re-present the flag to Reston, one of our four "Best Intergenerational Communities" for 2014, at the city's Little League Opening Day Ceremony.

How Authentic is Your Organization?

Renaissance woman Meredith Monk once said, "...to get to authenticity, you really keep going down to the bone, to the honesty, and the inevitability of something." In her blog post for The NonProfit Times, Donna Butts explained why, with the changing demographics, it's important now more than ever for nonprofits to be authentic. According to Donna, "Acknowledging the growing racial and generational changes among our clients and employees can help nonprofits avoid this seesaw economy's dip in and out of uncertainty." A Month for Poets
This month is a big one for poets all across America. National Poetry Month, or as we poets know it: National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo), is when all the wordsmiths confront their writer's block to compose a poem a day for the entire month. Those of us who are lucky end up with 30 new poems or drafts worth reworking. Fellow poet Gary Glazner, founder of the Alzheimer's Poetry Project, celebrates this month with a guest blog piece about his experiences working with the ACE Preschool and New York Memory Center (NYMC) in Brooklyn. Requesting Families
We are seeking families to profile for two sidebars for our signature report, 2014 Families in Society, that celebrates strong families. We'll release our report in partnership with the Alliance for Children and Families in time to mark the 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family (2014) at an event on May 13 at the National Press Club. The first family we're hoping to identify is a Hispanic/Latino family with strong intergenerational connections. We're interested in what motivates their connections, what helps and what would help them have even stronger connections. If you know of any such family and could pass along their names and contact information to Generations United's Communication Specialist Alan King, we would be very grateful.
