Greetings!
Hello and welcome to the inaugural issue of The Creative Business Advisor and I'm just thrilled that you've subscribed!
Boy oh boy, I feel like I've barely seen the light of day while I've been working on this quadrangle: my new website, my new voice-over demos, my new audio mini-course, and this brand spanking new e-zine! But it just goes to show, sometimes in business when you really want to produce, you've got to buckle down and do what's necessary. That's what being an entrepreneur is about: Setting goals and then making things happen! And there's nothing like the feeling of satisfaction when you've MADE them happen.
And I know if you've subscribed to The Creative Business Advisor that you, like me, want more from your business than just an income. There's so much more to our amazing entrepreneurial efforts than just the money. (Although that's wonderful too.) Creating a successful business that impacts the world around you in a positive way, while at the same time creating a generous and positive cash flow for you and your family, has got to be one of the best things in life! And I'm going to show you how you can create this for yourself. Each Tuesday you'll get weekly tips and resources on how to creatively grow your business, (or start one if you don't have one yet!), develop an iron-clad reputation, turn your customers into raving fans, easily improve your business practices on every level (which of course improves your bottom line) and so much more!
You'll learn the simple, key components of combining a successful business with a centered lifestyle. (Because quite frankly, what good is a successful business if you're a complete basket case, a workaholic, or hardly ever see your family?)
You'll find that The Creative Business Advisor is fun and interesting and downright refreshing! It's not just about number crunching and marketing... it's about YOU too!
You're going to love what you learn every week, as well as discover some fun and surprising detours along the way!
Wishing you blessings and success,
Maxine P.S. A little about me: Although I am a voice-over artist, on-camera spokesperson, and model by trade, during my 25-plus years in the business I've also become a very savvy solopreneur. I know what it takes to start and grow a business, maintain an imaginative and creative mind-set, create lasting client relationships and, most importantly, thoroughly enjoy the whole process.

Maybe It's Time to be Your OWN Boss by Maxine Dunn
Have you ever felt that you're just not cut out for corporate America? Or a "regular job?" Perhaps you've had lots of jobs over the years but you've always had a pervading sense of dissatisfaction. Maybe your heart just wasn't in it and you knew there had to be something more. Have you daydreamed about starting your own business?
If you're feeling this way then I suggest that you really start to listen to your intuition and pay attention to that vague feeling of discontent. It's there for a reason. It's encouraging you to begin exploring other possibilities. Then begin to take those random impulses of desire and start to hone them into a strategy and really explore the possibilities of what you can create in your life.
I decided a great way to get you excited about being a solopreneur would be to share with you some of MY favorite reasons for embracing the self-employed life-style. I hope they will inspire you, motivate you, and get you thinking of the possibilities.
So read on, and start dreaming...
1. There's no limit to how much you can grow.
There is no glass ceiling. You are no longer limited by company size, promotion practices, or salary caps. The sky's the limit! And you never have to worry about being down-sized or fired.
2. You can work according to your own body's rhythms and cycles.
~ Are you a night owl? ~ A morning person? ~ Like to work outside under the sky in a park or hunker down in a quiet home office? ~ Like to work 9-hour days or just on weekends? ~ Take a nap at 4:00 pm?
Working in an environment that you choose and at the time of day you feel most productive enhances your creativity, reduces stress, and sets you up for success! You will actually look forward to getting to work!
3. Dress however you please! No formal business attire required.
This benefit seems deceptively simple but it's wonderful! If your business is based from your home you can wear whatever you want while you're working. (Except when meeting with clients of course!) For example, my outfit of choice when I'm working at home is: Ugg boots, Victoria's Secret cotton shorts, and a tee-shirt. Once you get used to THIS particular freedom you'll never go back.
4. You'll develop leadership skills and management qualities you never knew you had.
Trust me, you have abilities that you have no idea you have! Being a solopreneur will bring out qualities in you that were never recognized, let-alone nurtured, while you were working in a job.
You'll learn to expand your mind and what you're capable of by wearing MANY hats. CEO. Artist. Producer. Marketer. Accountant. Copywriter. Publisher. You'll become self-reliant which creates more self-confidence and when your outlook becomes broader it all adds up to more self-respect. It's a powerful, beautiful, amazing feeling to discover your true potential.
5. You get to choose WHO you work with.
You choose the niche, the market, and the people you want to do business with. You're in control now. No more office politics, gossip, and workplace stress. (Remember the annoying guy in the cubicle next to you who was really loud on the phone and that bossy manager?)
6. You can work from anywhere in the world.
Because of advances in technology many entrepreneurs can run their business from anywhere in the world. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. Example: You can work on your e-book while sitting on your yoga mat in Bali or record a radio commercial from a hotel room in Marrakesh.
7. You'll get paid for doing something you love.
This is probably the best reason for becoming a solopreneur, one that will bring great joy and passion into your life. You'll experience the deep feeling of self-satisfaction and pride that comes from creating something yourself and running your OWN business on your terms. Your income will be coming from something that you're personally vested in and truly enjoy. There's almost nothing better than that.
I hope that these little tidbits will perhaps open your eyes to the benefits of entrepreneurship, if you're not there already.
