Sage In-District Services
Every year child study teams and districts identify students whose needs are beyond what the structure of the traditional school and child study team can meet. Child study team professionals understand what these discouraged students need but also recognize that they lack the time and resources necessary for the most effective intervention. Sage In-District Services is designed to fill the gap in service between traditional in-school support and an out-of-district placement. Our skilled clinical team will work with the child study team, academic staff and administration to provide a seamless counseling experience for the student. With the right therapeutic relationship and counseling, students will gain the support, strategy and insight they need in order to make progress in school. Sage In- District Services brings both the educational and counseling expertise that are the essential components of successful school-based intervention. A big accomplishment for this month is that "Olive" has passed her exam and is just waiting for some paperwork to be our official therapy dog.

We are still in the first week of February and have already had 2 snow days! I guess the groundhog may be right about having 6 more weeks of winter. With that being said, we will need to "take back" 2 days of the President Week break. Sage Day Mahwah will be closed on February 17- 19. School will be open on Thursday and Friday, February 20 & 21.

The next parent meeting will be on Wednesday, Feb 12th. Ms. Teggart will go over parent association business beginning at 6:00 and Ms. Vargas will begin her parent support group at 6:45 p.m.

Next week student council will continue to  sell candy grams in celebration of Valentine's Day. Candy grams will be on sale during morning homeroom and during break and lunch at the school store. The candy grams will cost 50 cents each. If you are interested in purchasing candy grams for all of the students in the school, it will cost $20. Cash or check made out to "Sage Day" will be accepted.

Our music and art classes are working hard on preparing entertainment and artwork for our upcoming Arts Festival to be held on March 26th.

On January 20th, Sage Day Boonton students took part in a school-wide day of service in commemoration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. Students participated in a food drive in the weeks leading up to the event, shopped for and sorted materials, and prepared over 100 bag lunches for the Market Street Mission in Morristown. Though the unexpected storm put us a bit off schedule, the lunches were delivered to the mission later that week. Both the Market Street volunteer coordinators as well as the recipients of the mission's services expressed gratitude for the students and their hard work.  All involved had a fun and rewarding experience and look forward to taking part in future volunteer opportunities as a school community.

Mr. Montesano continues to be available for students and parents with questions about the process of transitioning from high school into the world of careers and colleges. Feel free to contact him at [email protected] with any questions you may have about finding colleges, the application process, or decisions about reaching future career goals.

We are into our 3rd marking period already. Parents can access their student's Q2 report cards through the internet by logging on with their personal ID and password through Powerschool. Students are able to make changes in their afternoon electives through February 7th.

A new dance club has been formed and we already have quite a few students who joined. Students will explore the different styles of dance and may consider doing a performance in our upcoming Spring Arts Festival.

On February 3rd, a representative from Lincoln Tech was scheduled to come and speak to our seniors for anyone interested in pursuing specialized career training. This had to be rescheduled due to the weather and school closing.

Our annual dodgeball tournament will be held on Friday, February 14th, to kick off our winter recess during the week of February 17th.

Mr. Montesano will continue meeting with our juniors to help develop a tentative transition plan. This will include helping students research colleges, create resumes, find volunteer and community service opportunities, and prepare for their senior year. Mr. Montesano is also in the process of exploring a few more internships at each of our high school campuses.
