Wild about the Holiday on Small Biz Saturday

Westland, MI (November 27, 2013) --- Mayor Bill Wild gives gift cards to winning residents at local businesses in the City's Shop and Dine District to promote local shopping this holiday season.

On Small Business Saturday November 30, Westland Mayor Bill Wild will visit various businesses and raffle off a variety of gift cards ranging from $10 to $50 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

This shopping extravaganza follows his annual State of the City address where he highlighted several business investments in Westland.

"Statistics show that for every $100 you spend locally, $66 stays in the local community," said Mayor Wild. "That means your dollars are helping to build parks, libraries and improve fire and police departments."

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First observed on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. By contrast, Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local.
