Leadership Intro

Havasu Advisory Chair

I moved to Lake Havasu City in the spring of 1976.  In 1981, I was hired fulltime by the Lake Havasu City Fire Department as a rookie firefighter.  During my first few months with the fire department I was asked to contribute some of my pay, through payroll deduction, to the "Community Fund" which provided funds to those in need within Lake Havasu.  This was before there was a United Way office in Havasu.  Since 1981, I have been a supporter of United Way and the community by consistently giving of my time and money for a worthy cause.  Over the past few years, I was the chairperson for the City Wide Campaign in 2006, and have been the City's employee representative for several years as well.  I not only support United Way with my finances, I also support River City's United Way by sitting on the Lake Havasu Advisory Board and also on the River City's United Way Board.   I hope others will take the time to learn more about River City's United Way and get involved.  I also encourage others to give of their time, their talents, and any funds possible so that others can experience a better, healthier life.

The athletes name is Brandon E. Since starting with Special Olympics a couple of years ago, Brandon has grown so much. He works hard not only at Special Olympics, but also at school and out in the community. Since joining us he has learned that if you work hard and give everything you have, There is nothing that can stop you from reaching your goals.

He not only works hard to do well with his school classes, but is working hard to make the High School Football Team. He plays every sport that we offer and works hard not only at practice, but at home as well. He comes in for every practice with a great attitude not only for the sport we are playing, but to help all his teammates.

No act of kindness,
no matter how small,
is ever wasted.

This time of year reminds many to reflect upon the many things they are thankful for - family, friends, employment.

The team here at River Cities United Way are thankful for each other, our volunteer committees, and most of all, our donors.

We want to give back to our readers by sharing this recipe.

Qual Run (Recap)

One word comes to mind when you speak of the River Cities United Way's Third Annual Quail Run. SUCCESS!!

We enjoyed great weather, great volunteers, and great participants.  These all contributed to making this a  spectacular event!  Thank You to our Sponsors: Kingman Regional Hospital, UniSource Energy, Frontier Communications, Nucor Steel, Bulldog Recycling, Heavy Metal Gym and True Value Hardware.  Without generous support from these companies, we would never have been able to raise $3400 for the Kids Bright and Healthy Program that benefits so many Kingman area children.

This year's 5K race included 59 runners/walkers,
not to mention lots of little "Cheepers".

Mark your calendars now and start training for the first Saturday in November, 2014, so that your ready for next year's super dupper event!."
