SUNDAY ALCOHOL? 
TIFTON VOTERS TO DECIDE
 

Registered voters in the city of Tifton will decide whether or not to allow restaurants and 

beer_glass_full.jpgbars to sell alcohol by the drink on Sundayand whether to allow retailers to sell beer and wine on Sunday between 12:30 and 11:30 p.m.

 

Early voting ends at 5 p.m. today at the old gym on the corner of Fourth Street and Chesnutt Avenue. Election Day in the city is Tuesday, Nov. 5, and city residents may vote then. 

 

Also on the ballot is a question about increasing to $35,000 the homestead tax exemption for residents age 65 and above.

 

Residents in District 1 and 3 will also vote on their City Council representatives. Jimmy Carson and Wes Ehlers are seeking the District 1 seat currently held by Marianna Keesee; in District 3, Vice Mayor Johnny Terrell is unopposed for re-election.

The past week has been eventful for Tifton's Caitlin Carmichael. The young actress' latest film, "A Country Christmas" was released on DVD on Tuesday, Oct. 29, and then on Wednesday, Oct. 30, she appeared in CBS-TV's popular show "Criminal Minds."
 
"A Country Christmas" is about how two kids save Santa, and is produced by Kix Brooks of the country music duo Brooks and Dunn, and includes Trace Adkins, Joey Lauren Adams, William Shockley, Illeana Douglas and Kevin Pollak.

ALL THAT JAZZ
NIGHT OF JAZZ ON NOV. 7 AT ABAC  

 

The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Choir at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College present an evening of jazz music at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in Howard Auditorium. Sponsored by the ABAC Music Program in the School of Liberal Arts, this concert is free and open to the public.

 

Led by Director of Jazz Studies Donald Coates, the Jazz Ensemble will feature a range of styles from swing, ballads, Latin and jazz-fusion arrangements, and original compositions. 

            

The second half of the concert will spotlight the ABAC Jazz Choir, an auditioned group of singers from within the ABAC Concert Choir, directed by Dr. Susan Roe, voice professor, choral music director and music chair.

FALL FESTIVAL IN SUMNER 

The Worth County town of Sumner and the Sumner Egg Festival are hosting a Fall leaves.jpg Festival from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 in the Sumner Ball Park.  

 

Games, contests, food, non-Halloween costume contest, hayride, and more will be available. Sumner is approximately 15 mils west of Tifton.

KEEP 'EM WARM!
DONATIONS MAY BE TAKEN TO LOCAL CLEANERS

The Keep 'em Warm coat drive for underprivileged children is getting under way again. 
 
Coats will be collected from Nov. 4 through Dec. 16.

All jackets, coats and sweaters for children may be taken to any Tifton locations of Carriage Cleaners and Kelly's Fashion Dry Cleaners, who will clean the items before distribution, and may also be dropped off at Solomon Nixon Funeral Home and at the county commission office in the Charles Kent County Office Building on Tift Avenue. 
 
The Tifton Housing Authority and the state Division of Family and Children Services will distribute the coats. For information, contact Tift County Commissioner Melissa Chevers at 229-326-0241.

A tribute Beatles band will entertain during an evening of great music, great food and great fellowship as Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation North presents its 28th Annual Meeting and Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 , in the Charles Harris Learning Center on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus of Wiregrass Georgia Tech in Fitzgerald.

 

Following a prime rib dinner with all the trimmings, "The Return" band will perform as a reproduction of a live Beatles concert. The tribute band has played thousands of shows and corporate events for companies such as Coca-Cola, ABC, Hard Rock Cafe  and Volkswagen International.
