Things at King's: Remembrance Day

 

As we remember those who served and sacrificed to protect the freedom that we graciously enjoy today, please join us at the flagpoles in front of Wemple building at 10:45 a.m for a Remembrance Day traditional ceremony 

 

The ceremony will include prayers, wreath-laying, playing of the Last Post, moment of silence, and will include a bagpiper, bugler, and the King's University College Chamber Choir.

International Week 2013
  

International Week at Western takes place from November 12th - 15th. Join fellow students, faculty and staff in celebrating diversity on campus and exploring international opportunities, programs and discussions. An action-packed schedule of cultural events, workshops, presentations and special events is planned.  Events are happening across campus. Don't miss King's Global Forum hosted during International Week on November 14th, 6:30 p.m - 9:30 p.m. in the Vitali Student Lounge. The Forum showcases study/exchange abroad and experiential learning opportunities at King's and across Western. It also features student presentations about learning abroad, a panel of faculty members and table displays.

King's Ball

 

The KUCSC and Jay Gatsby cordially invite you to King's Ball 2013 at the Marconi Club of London, on the night of Friday, November 22nd, 2013. 


Throwing an unforgettable party the way only Gatsby can, this formal event will feature lively music and entertainment, a decadent meal, champagne, glamorous decor and dancing for hours. Campus Ministry at St. Joseph's Hospitality Centre

 
On November 16th, the King's community will be the host at the St. Joseph Hospitality Centre to support those less fortunate. We serve baked goods and hot drinks, play music, cards and build community all the while providing a safe and warm place for a few hours on a Saturday night. If you can volunteer to join us for a couple of hours, or provide baked goods, sandwiches, fruit and beverages, please contact Annette in Campus Ministry.
 
Project Shoebox is a new initiation our community will engage in this Christmas. You are invited to fill shoeboxes with socks, gloves, hats, toiletries and small personal items for those who are less fortunate. Please wrap these shoeboxes and indicate if they are intended for an adult male/female or child male/female. These boxes will be distributed at our December visit to St. Joseph's Hospitality Centre. Boxes can be brought to Campus Ministry in Wemple 139.

Good2Talk's professional counsellors will use professional counselling techniques to talk through any challenge a student might be facing. They can also provide information about on- and off-campus services including, but not limited to, support groups, financial aid information, health or medical services, employment services and legal aid. 

 

Good2Talk's information and referral specialists provide information on mental health and addiction services and can refer you to services in your local area or an area you prefer, both on and off campus. This can include counselling and treatment, academic accommodations for a disability, crisis support, addiction treatment centres, and self-help groups. Visit Good2Talk's website for more details.

London Lightning Basketball Game November 24th!
 
The City of London, London Economic Development Corporation, and 8 local educational institutions including Western have partnered to host a very special welcome event for international students studying in the city. Come celebrate with us on November 24th at Budweiser Gardens and watch our home team and two-time National Basketball League of Canada Champions - London Lightning, as they take on the Ottawa SkyHawks! Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and special student welcome begins at 12 p.m. This event will include an official welcome to the city from the London Lightning Head Coach and players as well as local, provincial, and federal dignitaries. You will enjoy a complimentary lunch (pizza or hot dog + pop) and meet international students from different institutions. Basketball fans will be able to get autographs from their favourite players after the game!
 
Tickets are $10 and are available at the King's International Office (Alumni Court). The number of tickets is limited. Please pick it up by Friday, November 15th the latest.

Full-time OSAP Student Income Update 
 

All Full-Time OSAP students are required to re-confirm the income amounts reported on their OSAP application. Please do this no later than Dec. 6th, 2013 or you may experience a delay with the release of your January OSAP funding. OSAP has been/will be sending out information regarding this step as well, either through email or mail, depending on the correspondence option you chose.

 

To update your income online, log into the OSAP website, go to your 2013-2014 application, and click "Update Income." Review the income information, make the appropriate changes as necessary, and click "Submit".  

 

Students needing to update Scholarship/Bursary/Award amounts on their OSAP application will need to come into the Student Financial Services at King's with their SIN card and valid Government Issued Photo I.D. as this category cannot be updated online. For those students who have received a King's Entrance or Continuing Scholarship and the $500 Enhancement, it is your responsibility to report the Scholarship portion only.  King's will report the $500 Enhancement to the Ministry on your behalf. You will need to complete an "OSAP On-Line Change Form" to update this section. This form is available from Student Financial Services or the King's website under the OSAP section on "Money Matters".
