We are very pleased to announce that on Lee Denim Day in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we collected $156 that was donated to the American Cancer Society.
Our campus in Rochelle Park closed out the month of October with some exciting days for our students. The week of October 21st was designated to Anti-Bullying. One day was filled with activities around Anti-Bullying. The day began with students and staff being treated to a pancake breakfast by master chefs, Mrs. Bertelli and Mr. Friedland. Advisory Groups decorated their doors with Anti-Bullying messages using their creativity. The winning door, Room 8, was awarded an Anti-Bullying bear, for the way in which they executed this theme. In the afternoon, the students thoroughly enjoyed a terrific one-man play called, "DIRT". Mr. John Morello was the host of the show and did a superb job as he conveyed some very powerful messages to our students about substance abuse and bullying.
We held our Senior Parent Night on October 22nd. Some of the topics that were discussed included: planning for transition after graduation, the steps involved with the college application process, the college admissions process, financial aid information and how Mr. Montesano will be helping each student with their future plans. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions and were given a packet that included information about deadlines and helpful resources.
We have found that our attendance incentive is a very strong motivator for maintaining perfect attendance. Thirty Two of our students had 100% perfect attendance during the month of September. They were invited to attend a special pizza lunch party in October. Keep up the good work!
Student Council's Halloween party was a huge success and everyone enjoyed the fun filled festivities as the gym was transformed with special effects and lighting. And the highlight was the "Haunted Hallway of Terror."
Preparations are well underway for our annual Thanksgiving feast. It is no easy task to cook and serve for over 125 hungry people, but somehow our Student Council successfully accomplishes this. Dinner includes two fried Turkeys (masterfully prepared by our own Mr. Kalnberg) plus all of the traditional sides. Our staff typically brings in the sinfully delicious desserts. Thank you to all of the extra hands for frying, baking, setting up tables, shopping, serving and cleaning up. What a wonderful way for us to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday. School is closed Thursday & Friday, November 28th and 29th. We would like to close with this quote by Henry Van Dyke that symbolizes the spirit of Thanksgiving:
"Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse."
