Westland City Council Approves Tax Abatement for US Farathane Corporation

Westland, MI  The Westland City Council approved a 10-year tax abatement for US Farathane Corporation following a City Council meeting on Monday, October 7, 2013.

US Farathane Corporation is a high-tech manufacturer of injection molded,  compression molded, and extruded products for numerous customer segments, including the  automotive industry. The company has nine facilities, seven of which are located throughout Michigan and one, located at 39200 Ford Road in Westland, which has approximately 185 full-time employees.

Utilizing the tax incentive, the company will be making a $4.5 million investment to their Westland facility. $3.8 million will go towards new manufacturing equipment and $700,000 will be used on an expansion of the building.  This expansion will create 10 new jobs and the investment will create $60,750 in new revenue.

The tax abatement status allows US Farathane to seek both real and personal property tax abatements.

"With this abatement, US Farathane will be able to expand its Westland compression molding parts production and stimulate local economic growth, while creating new jobs," added Mayor Wild.

"US Farathane is excited about the expansion of its Westland manufacturing location.  The increase in automotive demand and the improvement in the economy have increased the demand in the manufacturing sector.  The City of Westland has been very supportive of our expansion plans and has been a great business partner over the years," stated Richard L. Knappe, CFO.
