Green Tips
Save 10 gallons a day

The old folk wisdom that says place a brick in your toilet's water tank is partially correct: It's an effortless way to save water, but a brick isn't the best choice of object. Use a plastic bottle filled with water instead.

Greetings!

We are pleased to get the fall off to a fast start with our meeting on September 20th. The warm, sunny weather we enjoyed this summer is a great backdrop to hearing about capturing that sunlight to save energy and money with solar in your home.

You'll also hear about progress toward becoming a Massachusetts Green Community and plans for Needham 1,000, a campaign to help 1,000 households enjoy the benefits of saving energy and money through the 10% Challenge.  Then, please consider helping us turn that fast start into a strong finish by getting involved in one of those projects.
September Green Needham Meeting

Following an update on sustainability initiatives in Needham - "Needham 1,000", Green Communities and Wind & Solar power feasibility studies - the meeting will feature a presentation on solar energy options available to homeowners by Needham resident Chris Robinson of Sunlight Solar Energy.

Join us on September 20, from 7:30 - 9:00 at the Needham Public Library Community Room. Read more...
Green Needham at the Needham Harvest Fair

Green Needham will have a booth at the 2010 Needham Harvest Fair, Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Needham High School Memorial Field.

Please stop by to say hello, share your conservation success stories, hear about ideas and projects that are helping make Needham a greener community. You can also sign up to take the 10% Challenge.

Hope to see you there!
Green Needham Success Stories

Over 450 Needham families took the 10% Energy Challenge last year.  By providing a simple menu of ideas and choices, we wanted each family to find what worked for them.  And that's what they're doing.  Some of those families have shared their stories with us.  Read how Joanne Kneeland, Bill Okerman and Sarah and Steve Winig found their own path to saving energy and money, and living more sustainably.  Then tell us your story.
To paraphrase a former mayor of New York - "how're we doing?". Send us your thoughts and suggestions via e-mail or on our blog.

Sincerely,
