Yuma, Arizona - The Yuma Police Department
has received several reports of daytime residential burglaries that
began in July and are still occurring. These residential
burglaries consist of the suspect(s) knocking on the front door of
the residence. When it is not answered they break in and burglarize
the home. These burglaries are generally occurring in middle to
upper-middle class housing areas between noon and 2 p.m..
Although some information is being distributed throughout the
community from sources outside of the police department, these
cases remain under investigation.
We encourage the public to remain vigilant and look for suspicious
persons or vehicles in their neighborhood or by your or a
neighbor's home. If a person knocks or rings your door bell, be
sure to use a peephole or nearby window to confirm who is at the
door prior to opening it. Securely lock your homes and use any
installed security features, such as security doors or home alarm
systems. Trust your instincts and report suspicious activity to the
police department immediately
Members of the community may also take advantage of two free
programs offered by the Yuma Police Department. The Neighborhood
Watch Program provides education and awareness training to a
neighborhood in crime prevention and how to report suspicious or
criminal activity to police. The Residential Security Survey is a
program where an officer will survey your home and offer
recommendations to increase the overall security of your property.
