Soft Skill Credential Day

Friday, Feb. 14 is the first soft skill credential day of the winter semester. Building on their work from the fall, students continue to practice and demonstrate their college-ready soft skills with the goal of earning a Soft Skill Credential on the final Credential Day.

The first Credential Day is a formal check-in with students about their soft skills before the final Credential Day on April 4.

Soft Skill grades will be posted in PowerSchool after school on the Wednesday before Credential Day for students and parents to see.

2nd-Year College & Career Seminar

The 2nd-year college and career seminar must be completed by all 2nd-year (11th grade) middle college students.

Everything you need to know is in the syllabus in the WTMC 2nd Year College and Career Seminar 2025 course on Canvas. This course will be recorded on your transcript. Complete the requirements to receive a passing grade and to register for your spring and fall college classes.

Questions? Contact your BASE advisor or the

WTMC counselors,

All assignments are due March 9.

A Guide to Soft Skill Grades

S = Satisfactory: The student has demonstrated college-ready soft skills and should keep up their efforts as they prepare for college classes.

N = Needs Improvement: One or more soft skills needs work, or the student needs to be more consistent with soft skills in class.

PowerSchool provides lots of info about a

student’s soft skill grades. Teacher comments, missing work, and attendance are recorded there.

Students with Soft Skill concerns after credential day should meet with their BASE advisor to discuss strategies for success for the rest of the semester.

PowerSchool Cybersecurity Update

PowerSchool – a cloud-based software vendor used by Washtenaw Technical Middle College and many other school districts – recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information in the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS). PowerSchool is reaching out directly to affected families.

Please see the email sent to families for more information about the incident and the steps being taken by PowerSchool.

Ready for Winter Weather?

WTMC uses the WCC Alert system to send information about snow days or other emergencies.

Students should log in to the WCC Gateway to be sure they’re signed up to receive notifications.

WCC vs. WTMC School Closures

WCC and WTMC have different things to consider when making a decision to cancel classes. There may be times when WTMC classes are canceled while the college remains opens. However, if WCC closes campus, WTMC will also be closed.

Watch for announcements from both WTMC and WCC when winter weather hits.

Technology Access for College Classes

On-campus computing resources are available for all students. Students can access any software they need in the GM computer commons or department labs. This includes students taking online classes.

  • Students taking tech-heavy WCC technical classes (VID, CPS, ANI, GDT, PHO, etc.) should expect to spend time on campus in the computer lab.

  • WTMC will not reimburse students for the cost of software license subscriptions and can not install specialized software for WCC classes on WTMC or personal devices.

  • A limited number of WCC laptops are available for loan from the GM Learning Commons. Your WCC instructor can help you check one out. Once you have a WCC laptop, email Mr. Long for help accessing the software you need.
