This exhibit holds special meaning to the CSU Community as both artists passed away in 2024.
Richard Hunt, raised on Chicago’s south side, held a distinguished career that spanned seven decades, fighting racism throughout. Hunt’s metal sculpture is notable for its widespread presence in museum collections and public monuments nationwide, including our own large Richard Hunt original outside of the Gwendolyn Brooks Library.
Joyce Owens, originally from Philadelphia, came to Chicago as a corporate graphic designer before committing full time to her artwork. Her multi-media art career spanned four decades with works on display in galleries and public spaces worldwide, often incorporating themes of racism, sexism and fairness. Owens was a teacher and museum curator for CSU for nearly 20 years before retiring in 2015.
The Richard Hunt and Joyce Owens collection will be on public display in the CSU President’s Suite Gallery, in the Cook Administration Building 3rd Floor, through February 28, 2025 during normal business hours, Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm.
