A Note on Transitioning Forward

As I close out my time as the Director of Communications and Creative at UPROSE, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the transformative time I’ve spent with this groundbreaking frontline climate justice organization. My journey here has been filled with invaluable learning, growth, and deep community connection. Working alongside incredible organizers, advocates, and frontline leaders, I’ve learned what it means to truly fight for environmental justice, to amplify community voices, and to push for a resilient, equitable, and thriving future for all.

Thank you to the UPROSE familia and the greater Climate Justice Movement for allowing me to support this work. Though I’m transitioning out of my role, the fight continues, and my commitment to justice, community, and the arts remains unwavering. I look forward to seeing UPROSE's work continue to shine and to staying connected in our shared struggle for justice.

In solidarity and gratitude,

Ngoc-Tran Vu

Ending the Year with a Reminder that When We Organize, We Win!

Sunset Park Leads the Way with NYC's First Community-Owned Solar Project

β€Š

On December 6, 2024, UPROSE, in collaboration with Working Power and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), launched Sunset Park Solarβ€”the first community-owned solar project in New York City. This initiative will provide Sunset Park's residents and businesses with clean, reliable, and affordable solar energy through a 725 kilowatt (kW) solar array. Designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce energy costs, the project is expected to save approximately 150 households a total of $1.24 million on their energy bills.

Co-owned by UPROSE and Working Power, this project ensures community control over governance and benefits. Revenue from the solar array will support a community wealth fund, allowing Sunset Park residents to finance projects they prioritize, including additional solar initiatives. This model underscores UPROSE’s commitment to promoting community resilience and advancing a Just Transition to a regenerative economy led by frontline communities.
