Construction Notice

April 16, 2024

Project Background

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announces construction of a new truck escape ramp on Powder Mountain Road (SR-158) west of Powder Mountain Resort. This system utilizes a series of cable nets to stop runaway trucks, providing drivers with a safe alternative in the event they lose their brakes while descending the steep canyon.

Construction will begin Monday, April 22, 2024. Due to the narrow canyon roadway, alternating one-way traffic will be in place controlled by flaggers and/or temporary traffic signals. Motorists are advised that delays of up to 20 minutes are possible.

Here's what you can expect once work begins.

  • Schedule: Monday - Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout Fall 2024.

  • You will notice crews working along the northwest shoulder between mileposts 7 and 10, removing existing guardrail and starting excavation.

  • Alternating one-way traffic controlled with flaggers and temporary traffic signals. Motorists can expect up to 20-minute delays.

  • Be alert to slower driving due to limited space; maintain a safe following distance and obey the posted speed limit.

Keep this information in mind to ensure a safe and smooth drive through the construction zone.
