March 27, 2024 - Issue 32

Good evening!

As I was completing my marathon drive to EC the other morning, I pulled on to Poplar and saw Mr. Javier Cruz, in the drive, with a flag waving and keeping traffic flowing nicely. Thanks to Mr. Cruz, Mr. Tom Taylor, and Mr. Kevin Fischbach who have been on the job making sure everyone is safe, going in the right direction, and staying in their own lane, which can be challenging at times with our ever changing traffic patterns. We truly appreciate your dedication and courage for putting yourself smack dab in the middle of arrivals and departures. Please know that we appreciate your nerves of steel!

Did I forget to mention break is here? Oh...we made it and we ended the short week beautifully with an amazing presentation by our Living Stations of the Cross cast and choir. Additionally, we announced the recipients of the Scott Holland '02 Memorial Scholarship. Congratulations to juniors Andrew Post, Samantha Jennings, Tyler Suhie, Connor Soltis, and Natalia Dyson. We also recognized our recipients of the Pillar of Tradition. Congratulations to Maria Ochenas, '27, Isaac Saven '26, Sean O'Donnell '25, and Natalie Saddler '24. We are proud of our Panthers!

The photo above is of our very first Sawdust Rug. Creating these rugs is an Hispanic tradition at Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain during Holy Week. On Good Friday, the congregation processes out and walks on top of them, destroying the beauty as they take the body of Jesus to his tomb. The students and Ms. Sara Lanzola designed and laid out the rug before they presented the Living Stations of the Cross on Sunday. This may be a new tradition for EC.

Enjoy a well deserved break and all the best for a blessed Easter!

Keep the ripple going!

Beyond the Panther Classroom

The Luck of the Irish

Last week, Diversity Club held our fourth Cultural Curiosity event, this time featuring Irish culture. Dr. Terry Kenneally, retired principal of Holy Name and current teacher of Irish Studies at EC, presented on the history of the Irish potato famine. St. Jude students Meghan O'Donnell and Zoe Dancy showed off their wonderful Irish dancing skills to open our presentation, and students enjoyed trying Irish soda bread and "shamrock milk" as a treat after both presentations.

Inside the Panther Classroom

Theater Class

Theater class performed scenes in front of each other for the first time on stage. Some students put their pantomime skills to use by volunteering to be objects such as trees, tables, and houses!
