Dr. Quinton Cotton joins the faculty


The School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh welcome Quinton D. Cotton. Cotton. Cotton, a gerontologist and intervention scientist, recently completed postdoctoral training in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota where he received training behavioral intervention design. Cotton is interested in improving structural supports for persons with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) and their caregivers in community and clinical settings. Cotton has two decades of diverse clinical and macro practice experiences in various role such as clinic manager, foundation program officer, community planner, and public health consultant. He is engaged in several health promotion projects focused on strengthening the capacity of residents and systems through programmatic and policy innovations. Read more about Dr. Cotton.

Jones presents at DC conference


Faculty member Nev Jones was in Washington DC last week, presenting on civil commitment at the National Disability Rights Network annual conference and participating in the National Academy of Social Insurance's 50th anniversary celebration of SSI. In this photo, she's standing with former Senator Harkin, chief sponsor of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and collaborator Katie Savin.

Pitt athletics inducts BASW alumna into its 2024 Hall of Fame class


Pitt athletics’ 2024 Hall of Fame class includes several inductees of high status. The 10-person class will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during homecoming weekend on September 13 — the night before the next installment of the Backyard Brawl against West Virginia. This group includes BASW alumna Jamie Pelusi who is arguably the greatest goalkeeper in Pitt women’s soccer history, ranking first in saves and second in save percentage, shutouts and wins in Pitt’s all-time history. Andrew Young School of Policy Studies Appoints Alumna as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs


MSW alumna Jan Ivery has been appointed associate dean for academic affairs in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. In her new role, Ivery will lead the college’s portfolio of academic programs across bachelor’s, certificate, master’s and doctoral programs with a strategic focus on growth and innovation. She will also lead a new task force on strategic program growth for the college in collaboration with faculty, staff and stakeholders. Read more.

Alumnus poised to start law career in Wisconsin


Congratulations to MSW alumnus Michael J. Dubinski! He graduated from the Marquette University Law School, was sworn in as a licensed attorney in the State of Wisconsin and will now start his position as a Guardian Ad Litem Attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee.
