Pitt Social Work jumps to #12 in latest rankings


The University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work jumped nine spots to #12 in the 2024 US News and World Report rankings of social work graduate programs. There are 319 programs ranked in the survey, which puts Pitt in the top 4% of MSW programs nationwide. See the complete list on the US News and World Report website.

CRSP Students Travel to Harrisburg for LEAD and Meet Governor Shapiro


On March 19th, a group of students, faculty and staff from Pitt's School of Social Work embarked on an enriching journey to Harrisburg for Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD). One of the main highlights of the trip involved a select group of our CRSP students being invited to an exciting dinner event at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's house! This special occasion provided an engaging setting for students to connect and network with key figures in the field and celebrate the art of Teenie Harris. Read more and see photos from the event.

Booth article named "Editor's Choice"


Associate Dean for Research Jaime Booth's article: Examining Parental Monitoring, Neighborhood Peer Anti-social Behavior, and Neighborhood Social Cohesion and Control as a Pathway to Adolescent Substance Use (Free Access Until April 30th) was selected as an “Editor’s Choice” paper for the Journal of Child and Family Studies, indicating that it is a high-quality publication with likely interest among their readership and beyond.

Social Work Student on the Team Competing for Pitt in the Interprofessional Clarion Case Competition


Ilayan Daoud, a 2nd year MSW student working toward the Gerontology Certificate, was on a team that traveled to Minnesota last weekend to participate in the Interprofessional Clarion Case Competition.

BASW alumna named next President and CEO of UWCE


United Way of the Coastal Empire announced the appointment of BASW alumna Kimberly Waller as the next President and CEO, effective June 3, 2024.


In her most recent role as a Presidential Appointee in the Biden Administration, Waller led a federal bureau focused on significant initiatives supporting children, youth, families, and communities within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.



Waller holds a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in social work from the same university. Read more.
