Volume 2 Issue 13

OLLI at DU courses are set to begin for another term on April 1, or April Fools Day.* We could all use a little chuckle, but this newsletter is straightforward and honest. No fooling!

We have gained well over 220 new and returning members this spring and are excited to kick off our term on Monday. We are still registering folks who are just now hearing about us. Some courses don’t begin for several weeks, so there is still time. And members, don't forget that OLLI at DU's FREE spring webinars are set to begin on Friday, April 5. Click here for a PDF schedule.

And if you or a friend is interested in becoming a member, we hope you will take advantage of our special $35 half-year membership deal. This qualifies you for registering for courses, as well as a whole slate of member benefits, including webinars and FREE daily OLLI Fit classes during the 8-week spring term, starting Monday!

Another great way to participate in OLLI at DU is to book tickets for our OLLI at DU Back to the Future event that will take place from 3:30-6 pm on Sunday May 5 at Acoya Cherry Creek. Registration is now open! See our flyer, share it with friends and check out the story below for more details.

And, finally, the OLLI tour of Japan participants are back from a tremendous learning experience. Welcome home and so glad you had a wonderful time!

*Some historians speculate that April Fools' Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it around April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called “April fools.”

Participants in the March 12-24 OLLI Japan trip enjoyed a traditional tatami mat workshop in Kyoto and proudly display the mini-mats they made.

The event, subtitled “Beatles, Brews, and Bellbottoms” celebrates the rich 28-year history of OLLI at DU as well as the rewarding new directions we have taken in pursuing lives of fulfillment. Dress is nice casual, or ‘60s attire if you so dare. There will be music, an auction, and other fun events.
This is a very important event for OLLI at DU given that our fiscal year ends June 30. Your $75 entry ticket provides light food fare, music, complimentary beer and wine, valet parking and tremendous camaraderie. It will help OLLI balance its budget in these post-pandemic times. Please purchase a ticket to bring a guest to this event!
For our auction, we welcome donations of vacation weekends/weeks, home services, golf packages, artwork, etc. And finally, please consider becoming an OLLI sponsor of the event for $500. You will be recognized in the event program and at the fundraiser! To know more about how to donate, please send an email inquiry to olli@du.edu or contact Jackie Wyant at jacqueline.wyant@du.edu
