The Buckeye Regional Robotics Competition has come and gone, and with it, EC’s Robotics season has ended. Good luck telling that to Grace Obermiller and Luke Uecker! The two EC sophomores have been developing a complex swerve drive base since February and show no signs of slowing down. After three grueling days of waking up early, competing with 51 other schools, and getting home with just enough time to say goodnight before going to bed, I figured I’d treat the team to a pizza party. Here’s what they decided to do once we got unpacked.

“I’ve seen the punishment the robots have to withstand at competition, we gotta make them stronger.” Luke told me. 

“The faster we get this built, the faster we can get the St. Ed’s team over here to help us code it.” Gracie added. 

Not to be outdone, our President and Robot Pilot Bryn Miserandino lent a hand. This was Bryn’s third and last season, and the team owes a great deal to her perseverance.

A few days later Spring break was around the corner. I figured everyone would be eager to get away, relax a bit, and eat their Easter candy. Then I got a Google chat.

“Mr G. will you be here at all over break? Luke and I wanna come in and work on swerve”

How could I ever stand in the way of such dedication? They came to school on five separate occasions over break for hours at a time. The drive base has been built, and the arduous task of wiring is almost complete! We have some testing and trouble shooting to do, and we’ll finally be ready… to write the code that will *hopefully* control it. No doubt you’ll see us cruising the hallways when we do.

Panther Tech, team 7885 says “goodbye!” to the 23-24 season.
