Prepare for summer road trips

Summer Driving Tips

Now that school's out, it's officially summer vacation season. Before you hit the road, make sure you're prepared.


Check the following to make sure your vehicle is in good shape:

  • Wiper blades
  • Fluid levels (brake, automatic transmission, power steering and windshield washer)
  • Lights (headlights, brake lights, turn signals and emergency lights)
  • Battery
  • Tire pressure and wear
  • Air conditioning


Make sure your vehicle emergency kit is stocked for summer. Include:

  • First aid kit (check expiration dates of ointments, etc.)
  • Drinking water
  • Sunscreen
  • Flashlight,
  • Extra windshield washer fluid
  • Cell phone and charger
  • Jack and basic repair tools

Reminder: Development Review/Current Planning, Building Services lobby closed week of July 3

The lobby for Building Services and Development Review/Current Planning will be closed for in-person services from July 3-7 so staff can catch up on applications and update computer systems for new fees for permits and applications submitted after July 1. Online and phone services and in-person appointments will continue during this time, and staff will be working in the office. Learn more

Open Houses

Comment on the Thompson Road (Saltzman to Marcotte) online open house through June 29.


We plan to widen Thompson Road, between Saltzman and Marcotte Roads to add bike lanes, sidewalks and a center-turn lane. Streetlights and storm water facilities will also be installed. Comment here

WC-ROADS: Projects starting next week

  • Hall Boulevard, between Cascade and Nimbus avenues; road closure, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., June 23-26 for rail crossing upgrades.


  • Tongue Lane, from Highway 219 to Johnson School Road; lane closure, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. June 27-29 for construction.

Neighborhood Meetings

Neighborhood meetings, required for many Washington County development applications, can be held online temporarily as per the new COVID-19 Virtual Neighborhood Meeting Supplement.
