Parent Volunteer Newsletter

January 2024

Dear Parents,

The faculty and staff are so grateful for the cookie boxes they received before winter break. You can click on this Group Greeting link to read their notes of appreciation. Thank you to all the parents who contributed baked goods, supplies, and other sweets so that we could build these bountiful holiday cookie boxes. We truly appreciate the time and talent of all parents involved to continue this holiday tradition.

Reminder of School Communications for Delay and Closure: With potential inclement winter weather, parents are reminded that any notification of school delay or closure will be made through email and, where applicable, via text message. Please note:

 • We will not send a notification unless there is a delay or closure.

 • Phone calls will not be made with these emergency notifications.

 • International numbers will not receive a text.

Our next General Meeting will take place this Friday, January 12 after drop-off. We hope you are able to join us.

The people we lose take a part of us with them… but they leave a part of themselves with us too. Aurora De La Torre, or Ora to her friends, knows moving back to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, a place that was once home and is now full of bittersweet memories of her late mother, isn’t going to be easy. Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be. But after breaking up with her longtime, famous musician boyfriend, hiding out in a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart. And checking out her landlord who lives across the driveway just might cure it, too.

Only If You're Lucky

Lucy Sharpe is larger than life. Magnetic, addictive. Bold and dangerous. Especially for Margot, who meets Lucy at the end of their freshman year at a liberal arts college in South Carolina. Margot is the shy one, the careful one, always the sidekick and never the center of attention. But when Lucy singles her out at the end of the year, a year Margot spent studying and playing it safe, and asks her to room together, something in Margot can't say no—something daring, or starved, or maybe even envious.

When Ruby McTavish Callahan Woodward Miller Kenmore dies, she’s not only North Carolina’s richest woman, she’s also its most notorious. The victim of a famous kidnapping as a child and a widow four times over, Ruby ruled the tiny town of Tavistock from Ashby House, her family’s estate high in the Blue Ridge mountains. Consistent Parenting: How to Unlock the Secret

“Being consistent is the hardest thing of all,” many parents tell us. And it’s so true—it’s easy to lay down a rule and then let it slide when you’re tired or in a hurry. In this article, Janet Lehman explains why consistency is the key to your child’s behavior—and tells you ways to keep on track when you feel like giving up.

“Which Consequence Should I Give My Child or Teen?” How to Create a List of Consequences and Rewards for Children

What is the best consequence to use for a particular behavior? This is probably the most common question we receive during our online parent coaching sessions. Parents wonder which consequences to use, how to set them up effectively, and how long to give them. A great way to start figuring out the right consequences for your situation is to sit down during a calm moment and create a list, or “menu,” of consequences and rewards for your child.
