Going Forth

Season 3 of the Center for Careers, Life, and Service podcast, Going Forth, with hosts Jane Hoffmann ’24 and Nicholas Lampietti ’25, explores what it means to live a life of meaning and purpose. Selections from the Permanent Collection

In 2022, the Grinnell College Museum of Art acquired four works by Baghdad-born and now Louisville, Kentucky, based artist Vian Sora. Her work explores the awesome power of natural forces, water in particular, as a backdrop for human experiences of trauma, displacement, and persistent hope of transcendence.

Devices, Tools, Objects, and Props: Recent work by Jeremy Chen 

This exhibition of sculptural artworks by Assistant Professor of Studio Art and Chair of American Studies Jeremy Chen invites contemplation of the manifold meanings and uses of objects or things, and our complex entanglement with materials. Consisting primarily of humble objects of pathos or humor, many works in the exhibition have a purpose or use with the human body.

Bachelor of Art Exhibition

The Bachelor of Art Exhibition (BAX) presents work in the creative arts by third- and fourth-year Grinnell College students. With support from GCMoA staff, students manage all the exhibition details from the submission of proposals to the selection of a juror to the installation process, as well as the creation of an exhibition catalog and website. The exhibition includes photographs, drawings, sculpture, paintings, video, installations, and works created digitally.

May 2023 Graduates

To avoid departmental fees, students should return the following as they prepare to leave Grinnell College:

• A.V. equipment
• library books
• meal containers
• room keys
• athletic equipment

Students should also check their e-bill via Student Self-Service and pay any outstanding balance due.

When the semester ends, campus offices will submit any student charges to the Office of Student Accounts. Once all department charges have been entered, the office will close out Pioneer Card accounts and damage accounts. Any balances will then be transferred to the tuition account. Statements will be sent to those who owe a balance and refunds issued to students with a negative balance.

All refunds will be disbursed as follows:

• If you have direct deposit information on file for reimbursements with the Accounting Office, the refund will be directly deposited to your bank account.
• If you or your student plan to close the bank account on file, please keep it open until the end of July or provide new direct deposit information for a bank account that will remain open.
• If students have not previously provided the direct deposit information, they may do so through the Banking Information section of their Student Self-Service account.
• If no direct deposit information is provided, the check will be mailed to the student at the address on file.

Student Health Insurance Billing

All students are billed for Student Health Insurance coverage every year they are enrolled. 

If students are insured under an ACA-compliant plan, they are not required to be insured under the College plan. However, to be credited with the insurance premium charged on the student bill, students must waive the insurance each year prior to the publicized deadline. Coverage cannot be removed after the scheduled deadline. 

Please watch for health insurance billing information when fall bills are distributed.

Planning Ahead for Payment Transfers

Payments for tuition statements sent internationally or from college savings accounts require longer processing times.

Please initiate these payments as soon as possible after bills are available to make sure payment transfers are completed by the July 24 due date. Flexibility will not be provided for payment transfers requested after the due date.

Come Together to Support Grinnellians April 19-20

When we all do what we can, we are stronger, smarter, and shine brighter. This is collective impact — the combined result of our individual contributions to the common good.

For Scarlet & Give Back Day this year, an anonymous donor is offering a dollar-for-dollar match on every gift to Grinnell College, up to $500,000. When you direct your gift to the fund or program that is meaningful to you, this donor will direct an equal amount to the fund or program they find meaningful at the College.

Plus, members of the Parents and Families Leadership Council will give $100 to the College in recognition of each of the first 450 gifts from parents of current students and alumni. Your gift can help the College receive up to an additional $45,000 to benefit students and scholarships.
