Devonshire Young Performers present:

Shrek the Musical, Jr.

Based on the Oscar-winning smash hit film and outrageous Broadway musical, an ogre named Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits, who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions.

When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but this fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few big twists and turns along the way!

Hamlin & Central Parks host new compost sites

The Village of Skokie's Compost Drop-off Program is now so popular that they have expanded it to three more sites, including two more Skokie parks.

Visit the new sites at:

  • Hamlin Park – 7651 Hamlin Avenue
  • Central Park – 9350 Central Park (on the north end of the Central Park Avenue side)
  • Niles Township Government Office – 5255 Lincoln Avenue

These sites are in addition to Devonshire Park, Oakton Park, Public Works, Village Hall and Fire Station 16.

Why compost? In the landfill, food scraps and other organic waste generates methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Food scraps that are composted are exposed to oxygen, greatly reducing greenhouse gases. As an added bonus, compost is rich in nutrients and is a wonderful soil amendment for gardening.

Sports Park East walking path open!

The new wood chip walking path at Sports Park East, located at the corner of McCormick Boulevard and Oakton Street, is now open for use!

The new path is a little more than 1/2-mile around. Over the next two years, park staff will be planting native trees and shrubs, and pollinator-friendly perennial seeds and plugs, as well as looking at adding a couple of benches. The reused wood chips were provided by the contracted company that prunes trees throughout the district. The Village of Skokie also helped with the construction of the path by lending their roller to compress the path.

The park currently hosts cricket and soccer fields and sits next to the Skokie Sports Park golf range, mini-golf and batting cage facility.
