New Neuroscience Funding
A new partnership between Florida Atlantic University and the Community Foundation of Broward extends mental health-focused research and educational programs of the FAU-Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute (SNBI) to Broward County residents, including veterans, children and adults. Included is an expansion of SNBI MobileMinds to visit Broward County schools, expanding access to STEM education in Title 1 classrooms.

Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Leader
For the first time, Florida Atlantic University has been recognized as a Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Leader. Each year, the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recognizes strong engagement of select Hispanic-Serving Institutions with the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program.

APEX Accelerator at FAU
FAU’s Innovation and Business Development program has been selected as the regional administrator for the newly named Florida APEX Accelerator, a federal network designed to expand the number of businesses in the United States capable of participating in government contracts. FAU is the exclusive administrator of the APEX Accelerator program for Palm Beach and Broward counties, with the goal of helping create a resilient, sustainable supply chain for the U.S. Department of Defense and other federal, state and local government agencies.

Starry Nights
FAU's Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College hosted acclaimed author Andre Dubus III as part of its Starry Nights Visiting Author Series. Dubus shared passages from some of his most recent book "Such Kindness" and engaged in an entertaining and thought-provoking question-and-answer session facilitated by Rachel Luria, associate dean of Student Affairs and professor of rhetoric and composition at the Honors College.

Fall Research Symposium
Five undergraduate students presented their current research during FAU Jupiter's Fall Research Poster Symposium. The projects ranged from analyzing the outcomes of community-based intervention methods for children with behavioral issues to targeting proteins to combat triple-negative breast cancer.
Partner research organizations, Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute for Biomedical Innovation & Technology, hosted three of the researchers in their labs.

Jumpstart Postdoctoral Program
The Jumpstart Postdoctoral Program aims to stimulate synergy between faculty and postdoctoral associates and encourage greater multidisciplinary collaboration. The program provides opportunities for postdocs and faculty to engage in multidisciplinary research that addresses societally relevant problems. This is an ideal opportunity for faculty interested in starting a new collaboration and supporting early career scientists. Application deadline is Friday, Jan. 5, 2024.

2023 NAMIWalks
FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute's NeuroSquad team participated in the annual NAMIWalks Palm Beach County. The event, a fundraiser for the nonprofit National Alliance on Mental Illness Palm Beach County, raised nearly $116,000 for community-based mental health programs in Palm Beach County.

Train the Brain
Palm Health Foundation's “The Art of Learning: A Cross-Curricular Art Show & Symposium” brought together educators and elementary students at FAU's A.D. Henderson University School in Boca Raton. Attendees learned from Lindsey Wuest, an educator with FAU Lab Schools, and David Cinalli, Ph.D., assistant director of MobileMinds, that integrating art into curriculum strengthens memory and recall of taught concepts, even in complex science lessons. The event was presented in partnership with FAU Lab Schools and the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute.
