"Celebrating Our Staff Together"
Superintendent's Message
Dear FJUHSD Staff, Students, and Community,

We want to thank each and everyone of you for a great opening to our second semester! It has been a busy start with classes, winter sports, the opening of our art exhibit at the Muckenthaler, and our District Winter Dance Festival just to name a few events. We also want to thank everyone for all your hard work at our Open Houses and making each night a success! As we enter the month of February, we move into many exciting opportunities for our students and families, including CIF winter sports playoffs, the opening of our spring sports season, school dances, performing arts events, honoring our seniors, and preparing for registration for next year.

In this month's Newsletter, our focused theme is “Celebrating our Staff Together.” We would like to acknowledge each and every staff member in the District for their hard work and dedication. Without you, FJUHSD would not be the incredible District it is today. We would also like to recognize some important awareness days coming up that are highlighted within our newsletter for the month February.

Again thank you to all of our staff for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools.

Steve McLaughlin, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Addressing the Opioid Crisis
Thank you to our community partners, Orange County Health Care Agency, Chairman of the OC Board of Supervisors, 4th District, Doug Chaffee, and Fullerton School District. The “Addressing the Opioid Crisis“ workshop and Naloxone distribution held at Fullerton Union High School was a huge success. To learn more about the dangers of Fentanyl click here
Facilities & Construction Updates
Fullerton Union High School - Baseball Field
The Fullerton Union High School halo, fencing and grandstand project is progressing and will be ready for the upcoming baseball season. The fence and halo have already been completed and we are waiting for the bleachers to be delivered in February.
Sonora High School - Pool
The Sonora High School pool demolition is almost complete! The rains in December and January slowed the project down. We are currently waiting for the ground to dry out. We hope to be back on track as soon as the current storms pass. The next phase is to begin the shaping of the new pool and start the excavation process.
For the 2022-23 school year, FJUHSD was approved to implement Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) at Buena Park, Fullerton Union, La Habra, and La Vista High Schools. Parents with students who attend these schools will not be required to complete a lunch application form. Conversely, FJUHSD was not approved for CEP for Sunny Hills, Sonora, and Troy High Schools. While meals will continue to be served to students at no cost at non-CEP schools, the District will be encouraging parents who may qualify for free and reduced meals to complete a 2022-23 lunch application. The District Food Services team is here to support. Please contact us for questions or assistance at (714) 870-2820 or by email at foodservices@fjuhsd.org.
Suicide Prevention Lifeline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.
