“Time rolls us off incessantly, like the starrs some rising some sitting, & like certain Flowers budding & fading at the same time, such is the generation of Man; we pass quick through our Space, urg'd on by others in close Succession, like that mighty River, which though continually changing, is call'd the same, while the drops that have pass'd are no more remembred or known.”

Ecce Signum! Effigies of Charles Hardy
This 1824 broadside declaring “Ecce Signum!” (behold the sign, here is the proof!) features a portrait of Charles Hardy, a Black Bostonian, offering a New Year’s poetic address to his patrons. His words give the reader a glimpse into his endurance of lifelong hardship as an intelligent and gifted man fated to street sweeping and inescapably severe life conditions due to his African heritage.

Connecting Past and Present through the Adams Papers
A new production of Tony-Award-winning musical 1776 is playing at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University (A.R.T.) through 24 July. The MHS is featured prominently in the program book with an article by Sara Martin, Editor in Chief of the Adams Papers Editorial Project at the MHS, on the lasting legacy of John and Abigail Adams’s correspondence along with special thanks and inclusion in the biography.
